We can’t cry over Heatley, Savard, Hossa, Coburn forever and a day.

But they will be cried about until Waddell is ousted from his managerial position with the team. He's the link to why those players are no longer here -- with the exception of Heatley, whose situation was due to circumstances that all of us are aware of, and can't possibly blame Waddell for.

There are players out there ... on better teams ... languishing. "Some" of those players might say, "I don't care how F'd up Atlanta is. If they'll let me play 1st or 2nd line minutes, I'll pack my bags for Atlanta tomorrow. 'Cuz I'm d*mn sure not going to get them playing here." In these situations, I think our market can benefit. That scenario has every outward sign of a player who wants to try hard, achieve, and be amenable to being in the Atlanta market. Hopefully, that's what DWad can get, via trade or free agency, in the offseason.

I agree with Hokie. We can't cry over Heatley, Savard, Hossa, Coburn forever and a day.

Glovesave29

I agree that a second round pick is a long shot and EC HAD good stats back in the day, but he turned out to be a fail. IMHO, he was a wasted roster spot on our team. He may be a decent player for the Ducks, but didn't at all perform over a Gwinnett Gladiator level here.

I say anytime you can pick up a top 3 rated offensive prospect from any given team for a constant healthy scratch, you jump to take it.

I can't believe people are still complaining about Braydon Coburn... who gives a crap... he's a dime a dozen. The only reason he has good stats in Philly is because he has good forward support.

We gave up a first round pick to get him, and I wouldn't give up a 1st round pick NOW to get him back.

"Center Marty Reasoner said he would like to play in Atlanta long-term."

I love this quote. Hopefully we see more of that from some of our guys like Armstrong and Peverley. Atlanta's valuable players need to stay here, and we need to build around them and our stars (Kovalchuk, Bogosian, 1st round '09).

RF - I'd disagree with you about AZ helping us make the playoffs. It was Keith Tkachuk who made the difference. A big tough body down the middle that didn't allow the opposing D men to join the rush as quickly. He also was a bruiser in front of the opponents net, and that gave room for the skill guys like Hossa and Kovy to work their magic. I remember that game against Montreal (I think it was his first home game as a Thrash) and he was a one man wrecking crew. He also worked with Kovy on his game at all practices. Zhitnik was a waste. I will agree with you that people are forgetting Coburn's struggles here. But he hardly got a chance. It's pretty common that the defense is the last of the players to transition fully to the NHL game.

Before you get too excited about what we have down in the Canadian Juniors, let us not forget we just traded Erik Christensen...a player who once scored 54 goals in a season at that same level. Don't get me wrong, I like O'Dell's spirit and he is saying all of the right things, but there is a world of difference between the levels, and many a Major Junior star has failed to even make it with the big boys.

bart, you couldn't be anymore wrong. DW traded Coburn because of pressure from ownership, pressure from fans, and pressure from Bob Hartley. We made the playoffs, you same people would be complaining that we haven't yet..had those moves that year not been made. DW learned from it, I assure you.

Some of you see Coburn now and you quickly forget he stunk for us. You forget that Bob Hartley hated young players on his roster, and Zhitnik helped us get to the playoffs. His decline was the next year, the mistake DW made was signing him to an extension. All GM's make mistakes in trading young players yet to prosper, DW isn't the first and he won't be the last. I am not defending DW, but plenty of people mix up the facts in regards to the Coburn/Zhitnik trade. DW made a panic move. He didn't panic this deadline and he won't panic again.

Why do some of you keep mentioning Crabb ? Putting him on the 4th line over Boulton ? Please don't criticize DW ever again, when you hypothetically remove our Enforcer in an age where toughness is vital, because last time I checked..we aren't very tough and a team like Philly who is very tough man-handles us. Do any of you actually watch playoff hockey ? You have to be tough to get there and don't use the all-star team of the Wings as an example, they are the rare exception. I'd rather we build for bigger and stronger, because that has been our biggest flaw for a long time now. The small speedy team doesn't work for us in our division. How can people not be cognizant of that ? Crabb doesn't add that many intangibles, and he certainly doesn't get a spot over our enforcer, yikes.

I more like Sweden D-man. Second pick. Tavares will be in NYI for 100%.
Also O'Dell and Expo will be in Roster not soon as 2010/2011 season.
I real want to see a next season roster like that:
Kovy - Pever - Little (They got chemistry and speed together)
Slava - White - Someone should pick up on Summer (I like Max Afinogenov or Nik Zherdev)
Armi - Reasoner - Stuart (Great line to Kill Penalties and stop Offencive unit)
Boulton - Slater - Throrbun (We got lot of 4-th line players in Chicago)

D-Men
Tobi - Bogus (keep them together rest of the season, let build a chemistry)
Hainsi - Ilia Nikulin (I hope he will sing with us next season. Kovy is his friend and Kovy is Captian)
Ex- Valabik - Oistrik - new Sweden D-man (we got lot of combination)

Kari - number One
Moose - back up, if Moose will not play good, trade him or put him on waiver and bring Pavs

It is going to be interesting team for next Season.

Tony C. -

Good call...I probably wouldn't break up Pevs and Kovy. Maybe switching Little and Espo to spread experience?

It looks like the next big day for Thrasher fans is (once again) finding out the draft order. If we end in the bottom 3, when do we find out the order? Come on Tavares!!!!!
