Get Untangled

Wet Brush: The last time I went to the salon I discovered something amazing: Wet Brush makes detangling wet hair quick and painless. The bristles are designed to allow for easy detangling of even the thickest, most stubborn hair (moms will be grateful, too). It’s about $15, not including shipping; use code “JessicaShops” and save 10 percent.

Kids Consignment Craze

Second Childhood Consignment Event: This is the season for consignment sales on kids’ items, with this event set for Sept. 13-16. This is one of the most highly selective and organized consignment sales I’ve found, and began more than 17 years ago. Inventory will feature fall and winter clothing and merchandise including toys, strollers and much more. Find deals such as a Britax car seat for $75-$90 (regularly $250) and infant clothing for $1-$3 a piece (regularly $10-$15). As items dwindle throughout that weekend, most will be marked down to 50 percent by that Sunday. (King’s Market Shopping Center, 1425 Market Blvd., Roswell)

Let’s go gourmet

Midtown Restaurant Week: The event is my favorite way to try the best of the Atlanta culinary scene at a reduced price. From Sept. 1–9, 28 participating high-end restaurants offer gourmet prix-fixe menus starting at $15 for a three-course lunch and $25-$35 for a three-course dinner. Stops on my list include lunch at the French-inspired Atmosphere Bistro and dinner at Ecco, where I can’t wait to try the mixed lettuces with radish, almonds and a tarragon-mustard vinaigrette; pappardelle with braised pork, peppadew peppers and garlic; and olive oil, sea salt and chocolate ice cream, all for $25 (regularly $31).

Shop for a Cause

Anytime I find a shopping deal linked with a charity, I’m sold.

Socialvest is an online organization that allows you to give back through something you already do every day: Shop major retailers. Even better, find great online coupons through the site every month, like 20 percent off at Kohl’s, 20 percent off back-to-school clothing at Sears, 20 percent off sale items at Athleta and 25 percent off patio furniture at Lowe’s. When you shop from more than 600 retailers, a percentage of your purchase goes into your Socialvest account and is then donated to your cause of choice from more than 1.5 million charities. Deals subject to change.
