Spotted: Accessible Presidential Style

The Obamas were recently away at the Gulf Coast, vacationing in Panama City Beach, Florida and the first lady was spotted playing miniature golf in Banana Republic dreamer dip-dye cami, available online here.  I think this piece is so unique and trendy with the tiers and grosgrain straps, yet classic and simple enough to carry you from season to season – just layer it!

So often, we see her in decadent designer duds that while high taste, can be high cost.  Not this time…even the first lady shops at Banana Republic!

Oops, I Did it Again: Buyer’s Remorse and What to Do About It

It happens to the best of fashionistas and shopaholics alike.  Even the wisest of shoppers and coupon-clipping, penny-pinching savers fall prey.  I’m talking about buyer’s remorse.  It’s real, it’s ugly, but there’s hope.  Here are a few tips on how to handle (and potentially avoid) this greedy retail demon.

1. Reverse The Curse: Return It! This is your first and best defense.  Whether it’s the wrong size, color, price or just not your style, there are many stores with great return policies.  Click here for a list of the best.  Many retailers actually prefer that you return something to ensure your experience with them is a great one.  Make it a habit to ask “what’s your return policy?” while at the cashwrap and watch out for those with a 30-day return policy (time can run out before you know it!)  Getting your money back in the same form you paid for it is typically the method used.

2. Even Exchange/Store Credit: Some retailers with stricter return policies, or for …

10 Ways to Save for Back to School and Beyond

With no tax-free holiday for Georgia, finding ways to save on back to school shopping is more important than ever.  The need to save doesn’t end there, though.  The school year calls for many supplies, activities and clothes for those ever-growing kids (who can keep up!?).  As such, I’ve collected some creative ways for you to save now and continue to pinch pennies throughout the entire school year.

1. Set a Budget: While this may seem like a no-brainer, I challenge you to stick to it.  Whether it’s clothes, supplies, etc., decide how much you can afford and (here’s the key) take out that amount in CASH ONLY.  Leave the checkbook, credit card and debit card at home!  When you’re forced to use cash, you’re forced to make wise choices about your spending and look a little harder to find the better deal.

2. The 3 R’s: You reduce, reuse and recycle when it comes to the environment, why not apply this to all aspects of your lifestyle?  Reduce over-consumption of snack foods …

School Uniforms: Fall 2010 (Savvy and Surprisingly In Style!)

First things first: as school uniforms are becoming increasingly popular, an increasing number of major retailers are carrying them in an array of sizes, styles and sale points.  For example, Target, Sears, Kohl’s and JCPenney all have super cute cuts and specialty sizes with most pieces under $20 (and many under $10!).

Check out this IZOD polo dress from JCPenney ($14.99 or 2 or more for $12.49):

Now that you’ve got the down-low on stocking up, I want to show you how fun, functional and fabulous incorporating high-fashion trends into school uniforms can be.

Check out how these Fall 2010 trends are the perfect pairing for customizing uniform basics:

MILITARY JACKETS: With navy blue jackets being a staple in many school uniforms, take this fashion cue by replacing plain plastic with larger stud-type buttons from any fabric store.

BUTTONED UP COLLARS: This one is easy – just button up…all the way up (yes, even the last button!)  This adds structure and sophistication…and is …
