Should you shop consignment?

Q- Are consignment stores worth the time? Are they the same as Thrift stores?
Kim K – Conyers, GA

Though both sell second-hand items, consignment stores should not be confused with thrift stores. Merchandise in consignment stores is of better quality, due to the fact that items in thrift stores are usually donated and profits are often given to charity. When an item is brought to a store for consignment, sales profits go to the store and the consignor.

Consignment stores are very picky in their offerings—they favor name brands or items that may be second-hand but don’t look it. So, you can get a great piece by a known designer or label but not pay for the actual retail price. This is consignment stores’ biggest draw.
However, one big disadvantage to consignment shopping is you have limited choices. Sizes are not always available. Also, you may find that your style is not represented.

Atlanta is great for consignment shopping.  We have so many options and so many people selling …

Plus Size Fashion

Q- Where can I shop for trendy Plus Size fashion?
Sue- Atlanta GA

One great thing that the fashion retail industry has done is to create more options for many women, including plus-sizes.

There is no reason to pass on trends just because you are  a double-digit size? Many fashion brands have added plus-size pieces to their collections, and there have been many new brands coming out that cater specifically to the voluptuous women.
What can I say? Real women have curves.

I love this Iconic Wrap Dress ($102) by www.Igigi.com. It’s perfect for spring, and it drives the point that plus-size women don’t have to stay away from prints.   If you live in Atlanta, long sleeves are probably best if you work in a too cold office building by day and not for sitting on a patio in Midtown or Buckhead.

Kohls and Kohls.com has a lot of very budget-friendly options, too including Jr. Plus. With plus-size brands like Apt. 9, Chaps, Trimshaper, Daisy Fuentes, Dana Buchman, etc., you can shop for …

Designer labels at K&G Superstore

K&G Fashion Superstore just launched “Designer Spotlight” in some Atlanta area stores.  They have Prada, Gucci, D&G, Armani.. and a few other designer brands for up to 70% off the original retail. And it’s the real stuff shipped from Italy…no knockoffs!

The sizes vary from size 2-14, it’s mostly European sizing but there is a conversion chart in store.

The designer brands are not available at every K&G in GA, but they are available at every store in the Atlanta area, about 6 total.  Below is the website that will give you the store locations if you click on Atlanta.

Don’t forget that K&G is also great for stocking up basics like lingerie, cute hats, socks, and t-shirts.  They also have deals on suits for men and kids with extended sizes for men up to 3x.

Shopping for kids

Q- Any tips on shopping for kids?  I have such a hard time shopping with my kids and finding cute items at the same time.
Wanda Jones- Peachtree City, GA

Shopping for your kid may be just a tad frustrating. Imagine going through racks and racks of clothes and trying to please and pacify your little one . Online shopping suddenly makes a lot more sense, doesn’t it?

One site I recommend is www.childrensplace.com. Check out their “Outfits” tab. I love how they create different looks—like lil’ hip chick or fun ’n fashionable for your little girl, or beachy boy or sporty layer players for your little boy.  So you can shop the whole look or just pick certain items.  Plus $5 shipping all the time no matter the size of your order.

Another great shopping site for kids that most know about (and for anyone in the family, basically) is www.oldnavy.com . What you may not know, is that you can actually shop five stores while you’re on the site, so don’t miss Piperlime Kids and Gap Kids.

If …
