Green Doggie Daycare

greendog2Exciting news for green families.  Greendog is a new boarding and grooming facility that is completely green.  Boarding is currently $30 per night which is $10 of their regular price, AND the first day of daycare is FREE.

Use code JessicaShops and get HALF OFF your grooming service! Just FYI – grooming runs anywhere from $25 – $65- so this is significant!

Other reasons why you’ll love Greendog:

Completely green – they have a greywater recycling system (something only a handful of facilities in the entire country use and a very significant investment for a business), ecologically-safe cleaning products used instead of bleach (as dogs can come in contact with anything used in a facility), use of local artisans to create handcrafted den doors, metalwork, counters and sinks, etc., and lots more elements that make it green.

The reception area looks like a posh office space. This place is truly luxury for the dogs and they give lots of personal attention to your furkid.

Men’s Fashion for Spring/Summer 2010

What do guys wear for Spring/Summer? Reports from the runways of Fashion Week….

Smart and sexy still win over sloppy. But don’t worry, you don’t need to be as lean as the runway models to look the part.

· Lightweight fabrics. Khaki shades. Chino pants. Safari-inspired pieces. Nude tones. It’s very light and earthy!

· Polish makes perfect: Think crisp shirts, jackets and trousers.

· Speaking of trousers, slim and down to the ankle is very chic.

· Gray is big. Choose this color for any piece and pair with black, white or with punchy hues that are also on-trend: red, orange, yellow, purple, green. (Yes, color is sexy on men!)

· Denims are either ripped or dark-colored and classic-looking. (Obviously, the former is for laid-back affairs.)

· Sportswear. Not your workout gear. More like your Lacoste pique shirts.

· For the rocker in you, the leather jacket is still strong for Spring. Throw it over a casual, scoop-neck tee.

New York Fashion Week 2010 recap

michael_korsBryant Park was all abuzz with everything chic for New York Fashion Week 2010. (This will be the last year at this famous location).  And while the fashion community was still grieving the loss of fashion designer Alexander McQueen, the shows still went on.  Here is what we have to look forward to for the next fashion season, what will you be wearing?

· Bohemian luxe—think florals layered with chunky knits and oversize cardigans

· Women’s suit: pinstripe suits, tuxedo for the ladies (courtesy of Philip Lim and Vera Wang), and Donna Karan’s boyfriend’s coat (a spin-off on the boyfriend jeans and jacket)

· Lots of textures—cashmere, fur, cable knits, velvet, etc—to keep you warm and fab whole season

· Visual impact by way of graphic elements: art-inspired prints, Bauhaus graphics, checks, graffiti, among others

· Black. It never goes back because it never seems to leave anyway. But the new way to wear black is with lots of textures.  Loads of black on …

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

mcqueSad news in the fashion world as the details of Alexander McQueens death circulate the Internet.   He was a brilliant British fashion designer who dressed the likes of Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz.   His fashion shows were theatrical, fun to watch and his designs were outrageous (and expensive).
You may not know this, but he designed the outfit Janet Jackson was wearing during the “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl. (Doesn’t that seem like it was yesterday??)

There has been a lot of talk about the crazy outfit Lady Gaga wore at the British Music awards.  The outfit was a tribute to McQueen, as her style almost paralleled his vision.

His designs will be missed at future Fashion Week shows,  but we can enjoy the Spring 2010 collection, his last contribution to haute fashion.

I could never afford a “real” McQueen, but I am glad I snaged some of his designs when he debuted a line for Target last year.

Lingerie: In or Out?

Q- Seen on celebrities (Katy Perry, Rihanna), and even on the street, so what’s your take on lingerie as outerwear?
Carla – Atlanta, GA

A-  Leather corsets, lacy bras, sexy garters…they’ve all made the transition from the bedroom to the runway—and boardroom? (Imagine that!)
Okay, call me conservative, but I do have a certain “resistance” to this growing trend (we saw it in 2009, and it’s still around this year).

Not a lot of people can pull this off without looking a bit like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.  It looks glamorous and sexy and oh-so-chic on the models, but in real life, it can come across as borderline trampy.
Dita von Teese, technically not a model, can pull it off, yes.  But she’s the reigning burlesque queen.

This look says “sex and sexy” and that’s a pretty tough look to make appropriate for many places and occasions.
I say wear the lingerie where it’s supposed to be worn: In.

For those who dare to wear -

Yet another reason to love H&M

soniaWho doesn’t love a good bargain? And especially one that you don’t have to go on a very tedious, crazy hunt for.

This is why I love H&M.  The Swedish clothing company never fails to serve up the latest in fashion, but at very friendly price points. Most pieces are below $50—and we’re talking real clothing items here (not just fashion accessories): sweaters, jackets, tops, dresses, skirts, etc.

I especially love that they collaborate with some of fashion’s biggest names and produce items designed by these big-ticket names but at H&M prices.
This is one “trend” that other retail brands have taken on. H&M was among the first to do this, starting with no less than Karl Lagerfeld in 2004. Other designers and celebrities followed suit: Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Madonna, Roberto Cavalli, Kylie Minogue, Comme des Garcons, and Matthew Williamson.

In 2009, H&M partnered up with French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel for a ladies lingerie range.

For 2010 H&M …
