Celeb designers go mainstream

chipIf Fall shopping doesn’t excite you because of a tight budget, there are ways to get the latest looks for less than you might think.  Your favorite everyday stores are partnering with top designers and celebrities to offer affordable clothing lines.   Check out the most recent offerings.

As part of their Go International program, Target teams up with a different designer every few months to create limited clothing lines.  Prices start at $15, max $100.  The amazing list of designers include Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Proenza Schouler, Anna Sui, and most recently Rodarte.  This collaboration is a must with prices starting at just $9.99.  Compare that to a Rodarte dress from Barneys for $500, or a pair of thigh high boots for $3000!!

Wal-Mart has teamed up with Miley Cyrus and Max Azria. The looks include tanks, leggings, shirts and jeans.  Prices start at just $10.

Lauren Conrad (formerly of The Hills) has a line sold exclusively at …

Ask JessicaShops: I need basics!

tshirtHow do I stock up on basics (cute t shirts, tanks, cami’s etc) without overspending?  Which stores offer the best quality, style and price?
—– Kim G. Kennesaw GA.

This is one of my favorite topics because it is easy to overspend on basics at department stores and cute boutiques.    Stock up on inexpensive tees, tanks and undergarments at Old Navy, Target, H&M, Gap, Kohls and American Apparel.   The price is always right even without a sale, quality is good and updated cuts flatter most body types.

I also recommend a visit to the teen boys and girls departments for t-shirts and tanks.  T- shirts are often priced lower and the cut is better proportioned for women, especially petite women.

The recessionista guide to fall fashion.

While a new fashion season is always a great excuse to shop for a new wardrobe, your inner recessionista knows better than to buy a whole new wardrobe.

Consider what you have from Spring; certain key pieces are will take you into the fall weather and leave some extra spending money for holiday shopping.

Here are the items from Spring which you can work into your Fall looks:

1. Platform shoes: Wear these with textured tights and you’re ready to hit the party circuit.
2. Boyfriend blazer: Stay warm in your oversized coats or blazers (or yes, borrow from the boyfriend—hence the name and always fun to raid his closet).
3. Bright-colored bag:  All the somber hues of Fall—grays and blacks—are brightened up with a tote or carryall in a punch hue.  Think purple, green, orange, or ruby red.
 4. Harem pants: Short (knee-length) or long, harem pants are comfortable and chic. Wear them with all your layered tops and you won’t look frumpy.
