George Jones sets Atlanta date for final tour

Last summer, George Jones announced he would quit touring at the end of his 2013 road trip.

That victory lap, dubbed “The Grand Tour,” will stop at the Fox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 19. Tickets are $42.75 and on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 25.

The country music icon, known for his hits “White Lightning,” “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes,” started the 60-date tour last year.

Jones remarked at the time he announced the farewell run that, “It is tough to stop doing what I love, but the time has come.”

Plans are also still in the works for a Jones/Dolly Parton album.

Tickets can be purchased at the Fox box office, or by calling 1-855-ATL-TIXX.

george has missed Ron Geddis not being there on stage with him. Ron really helped George from a sound perspective when his voice stared to leave him ron could sing just like Jones. But we love ya Possum

I am so glad that I got the chance to see George twice.. One time was on his 60th birthday and the event brought out a cake for him. It was a great night. I wish everyday could be like that. Where has the time gone? We will always have your records and DVD’s to watch. All the best in retirement.

Remember you George at the Circle Theater in Cleveland in the 50″s. You used to come out to the lobby on intermision and socialize. Must have seen you 20 times since. Lot of pictures and I think every album. I have songs nobody ever heard of. Played music and now Karoake and I’m always asked to sing George. They say I sound so much like You. Also a friend of mine, Debbie Banks Skellanger knows you and Nancy both. Got tickets for them and me in Cleveland and Akron. Would love to see you one more time and will if your close to Cleveland.. You will always be the greatest.

George is and will always be my favorite country singer . I believe he can sing a song so and get every little feeling anyone could ever put into a song . gives the chills to me in every song I cannot begin to express how much he has inspired me .have always listened to George and always will . we know that we all have to have some time for family and I hope that George and Nancy enjoy every year of his retirement , he has earned it and I know it is really hard for George to retire believe me , I love all his songs not only the hits but every song he sings he puts so much feeling into every word and sings some of the best songs ever . my whole family has always loved george and we are greatfull that he has made us so happy listning to his music through the years, every song means something to me , and we will continue , thanks George Jones , we love you , you are the best , the greatest ,

One of a kind, he is. The face and sound of “country” music is all but gone. Hank, Johnny, Waylon, too many to name . . . nobody is in the wings. Sad. Over-processed pretty boys crowd the market, it’s all about the money, all about image.
