Atlanta rapper B.o.B. sat down with MTV for an installment of “This is How I Made It,” airing at noon Saturday.

During the show – which also spotlights Demi Lovato – B.o.B., who grew up in East Atlanta, discusses his teen years in the city.

“The advantages that I had as a kid were that I saw both sides of the track. I stayed on the less fortunate side, but I was in a program that allowed me to go to school in a more fortunate side of town. So… I got to see both perspectives,” he said, regarding his time in the magnet program at Columbia High School in DeKalb County (he earlier attended Henderson Middle School in Chamblee).

“When I decided to drop out of high school, there was no backup plan. Plan B was if Plan A fails, go back and retry Plan A,” he also noted.

Plan A seems to be working just fine for the 24-year-old rapper. His second album, “Strange Clouds,” boasted three Top 20 crossover hits on the Billboard Hot 100 – the title track, with Lil Wayne; “So Good,” featuring OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder; and “Both of Us,” with a guest vocal from Taylor Swift.

B.o.B. will perform at Smith’s Olde Bar Dec. 21 to celebrate the anniversary of Atlanta-based beverage, Whynatte.

He’s a mockery. No talent and has accomplished NOTHING. Why are we wasting our time on this person ?

Actually he is very talented. He went to middle school with my daughter and was and is a very talented musician. The rap pays the bills, but he also plays several instruments, I believe, and is a really great, grounded guy.

He is a mockery? No talent? Get outa here and do your research. He is a gifted and bright musician. He was signed by T.I. to his grand hustle label after making songs that were creating buzzes all around the south. He has topped the charts with beautiful girl and has also backed it with some other good singles. Not to mention he also produces music as well. He has also worked with arguably the best talent in the industry. I would say he is very successful. He had a goal and accomplished it. So what that he didn’t finish high school. He has a major recording deal and also big time endorsements with companies like Adidas. He is definitely banking seven figures and have not forgotten where he came from. I’m from the same are that he is from and it is nowhere you want to stay. Big ups to BOB. Keep up the good work. I salute anyone who has made it out of Decatur and is now able to provide for his family.
