Georgia was in the house early at the CMA Awards, with Macon son Jason Aldean kicking off the night.
Aldean quickly dedicated the show to “our friends in New York and New Jersey” before launching into his appropriate anthem of resilience, “The Only Way I Know.” Luke Bryan – a Leesburg native and Aldean’s summer tour mate – soon joined Aldean, as did Eric Church, the top nominee of the night with five.
Speaking of five, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood emerged to host for the fifth year. The pair began their always-awkward banter with a jokey song about drinking and onstage vomiting (with namechecks for Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga) with a “moves like Haggard” chorus.
The duo then displayed their own moves by dancing to the ubiquitous “Gangnam Style,” which was certainly cute, but already feels outdated. Enough with this fad already, ‘k?
A Lisa Marie Presley sighting led to the presentation of the Single of the Year award, which went to Little Big Town’s “Pontoon,” which denied Aldean one of his three chances to win tonight.
