Trace Adkins, the country singer with the deep-barrel voice, will head the musical portion of Macy’s Great Tree lighting at Lenox Square Mall this year.
Adkins will be joined by Chris Mann, a season two finalist on “The Voice,” and Cymphonique Miller, star of Nickelodeon’s “How to Rock” show.
The ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. Thanksgiving night (Nov. 22), with the pre-show concert kicking off at 6:15 p.m.
Adkins is best known to some as a 2008 finalist on “The Celebrity Apprentice” (he lost to Piers Morgan) and to others as the distinctive voice behind hits such as “You’re Gonna Miss This,” “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and his latest, “Just Fishin’.”

Thank you, Macy’s and WSB TV for continuing to kill what was once a unique and magical Atlanta tradition. More third and fourth rate “entertainers” only interested in plugging their latest project in between butchering “holiday” songs.
The lighting of the tree (particularly back when it was at Rich’s) used to be the eagerly awaited kickoff to the Christmas season in Atlanta. Seeing what it’s become is a cruel joke.

ATL Native – I happed to enjoy Trace Adkins. Although I agree I get tired of hearing the same holiday songs over and over, at least his voice is pleasant. Maybe if they let him sing something along the lines of his song “Muddy Water” instead of “Holly Jolly Christmas”, you might enjoy him too.

I have to agree with Trace Fan. Trace Adkins is not a third or fourth rate entertainer. Atlanta Native should wake up and smell the hot cider. This event has always been a tree lighting at a shopping mall sponsored by a department store; how “Oh Holy Night” is that?

Here’s a suggestion for Macy’s/Lenox Mall/WSB: Transition the event to a charity event to support the Red Cross and the Hurricane Sandy victims in the northeast. It’s 3 weeks away, which means Sandy will not be top of mind by then, but the people will still be recovering from the devastation.
Want to be admitted? Donate $5 or more to the Red Cross.

Back in the day when it was The Lighting of Rich’s Great Christmas Tree, I was honored to perform with my school choir. Actually, it was all school and/or church choirs that brought in the Christmas Season. I sure do miss Rich’s in the old downtown building. It’s just not the same anymore.

Anyone who would call Trace Adkin a third or fourth rate talent is a complete and utter moron. Three number one hits, numerous awards, 6 or 7 Gold and Platinum albums………..

@Atlanta Native…Guess what. Christmas is totally commercial now, or have you not been paying attention? Also Rich’s went out of business completely about ten years ago…get over yourself.

My family and I am looking forward to the tree lighting this year. We enjoyed Scotty and company last year . I’m sure Trace will not disappoint this year. For those of you who don’t approve, please stay home so i can get a front row spot!!

Why not quit worrying bout who is singinging and listen to the words, read the words, hear the words and learn from the words. Christmas is not about where it is It is about who it is…. I pray each person there derives a good feeling just by being there. the world is so cruel and getting crueler by the day. Whether it is badonkadonk, feliz navidad,oh Holy Night Just enjoy and be greatful we here in Atlanta have this great tradition, not many care anymore and its sad.

I went to the 2010 lighting of the Macy’s Christmas Tree and Katherine McPhee permormed, along with a few others, but it was what my family and I made it…magical!! If you so choose to go, then enjoy the music, not because it is an A-list celebrity or the most famous singers, but because it is Christmas and Peace on Earth and such. Enjoy being surrounded by strangers that all get brought together to listen to music and watch as the tree is lit and fireworks. Quit being such Grinch’s and being angry, life is too short to have such a bad attitude
