Georgia acts dominate American Country Awards nominations

It’s getting increasingly difficult to keep the myriad country music awards straight these days and seems as if there is a different one every few weeks.

The CMA Awards, essentially the Grammys of country music – air Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

But on Dec. 10, the third annual American Country Awards, essentially the People’s Choice Awards of country music, will air live from Las Vegas on Fox with hosts Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth.

(There are also the CMT Music Awards in the summer and the Academy of Country Music Awards in April.)

What separates the ACMs, though, is that they’re entirely fan voted and this year, touring and Song of the Year (for songwriters) categories have been added to the mix.

So who is up for some trophies? Lots of Georgia acts, as is commonplace when country accolades are being bestowed.

Leesburg’s Luke Bryan leads the nominations with seven, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for “tailgates and tanlines,” while Lady Antebellum and the Zac Brown Band are close behind with six each. Jason Aldean – the big nominee at next month’s CMAs – Eric Church and Taylor Swift round out the top nominees with five apiece.

The Artist of the Year category contains almost exclusively acts with Georgia ties – Aldean, Bryan, Lady Antebellum and the Zac Brown Band, with Swift the only outsider.

Georgia girl and “American Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina also made the cut and will battle Hunter Hayes, Jana Kramer, Kip Moore and Pistol Annies for the New Artist title.

Among the Touring Artist of the Year nominees are Aldean, Lady Antebellum and the Zac Brown Band, as well as Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert and others.

For a full list of nominees, visit www.theacas.com.

Starting today, fans can vote once each day on the site. Voting is open through Nov. 12, except for Artist of the Year, which runs through Dec. 7.

Nominees were determined by various media measurement companies: BigChampagne (for record sales and media consumption); Great American Country (for video airplay); Mediabase (for radio airplay); Pollstar (for touring data); and the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
