Finally. A little respect for Rush and Deep Purple.
Both bands, perpetually ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, made the ballot this year, along with fellow first-timers Public Enemy and N.W.A., the Marvelettes, Procol Harum and blues guitarist Albert King.
The rest of the roundup includes many returnees: Chic makes their seventh try for induction, while the late Donna Summer is on the list for a fifth time (what a shame that she couldn’t receive the honor while alive). Also Heart, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, the Meters, Randy Newman and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band return for a second attempt.
The next step is sending the ballots to the more than 600 hall of fame voters later this fall. The show will return to Los Angeles for an April 13 ceremony, which will be later broadcast by HBO.
Acts become eligible for the fall 25 years after the release of their first recording.
Who among this crop of nominees do you think deserves induction?
