Rick Ross and Young Jeezy fight backstage at BET Hip Hop Awards

At some point toward the end of the BET Hip-Hop Awards Saturday night, rap kingpin Rick Ross and Atlanta MC Young Jeezy allegedly got into a confrontation backstage that continued into the parking lot.

No one was injured and no arrests were made.

Though most fans gathered in the Atlanta Civic Center for the taping of the show were unaware of any unsettling events, those trying to leave the building found it on temporary lockdown while the situation unfolded.

Rapper Funkmaster Flex claimed to have a prime view of the skirmish and quickly took to Twitter to spread the news.

“Jeezy and Rick Ross just had words backstage!! Pushing and shoving!!” he tweeted, then two minutes later added, “Beef just spread to the parking lot!!”

Atlanta police said in a statement that no shots were fired and no arrests made as individuals fled the scene. Officers broke up the fight and used OC spray in the process.

Both Jeezy and Ross have had a few run-ins with the law in the past. Jeezy was arrested in 2005 for carrying a concealed firearm without a permit and in 2008 for DUI, while Ross was arrested in 2008 for gun and marijuana charges, and in 2011 for possession of marijuana as well.

Though the timeline of the fight is unclear, Ross turned out an incendiary – and shirtless – performance of “Hold Me Back” and “Ice Cold” with Omarion that will air on the show Oct. 9.

On Sunday, BET posted the following message on its website:

“BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

Also, TMZ has posted some (blurry) video of the incident between the rappers.
