Scooter Braun is taking his ambitions global.
The music manager with longtime Atlanta ties recently signed Psy, the Korean pop star with the viral YouTube hit, “Gangnam Style,” to his Schoolboy Records.
Braun is, of course, famous for turning Justin Bieber into a mall rat magnet and megastar, and, on Bieber’s influence, signed Carly Rae Jepsen of “Call Me Maybe” fame. (Jepsen and Bieber have a duet, “Beautiful,” on her new album, “Kiss,” coming Tuesday.)
He also manages British boy band The Wanted in North America.
As for Psy, a presence in his homeland for a decade, Braun is determined to make him the first Korean artist to break big in America. The fun-loving singer, 34, made an appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards last week and “Gangnam Style,” sung almost entirely in Psy’s native language, is already No. 8 on the iTunes’ singles chart.
Here’s video of Psy on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” dancing with Britney Spears.
