The Soul Train Awards are taking a midnight train to Las Vegas.
The show, held in Atlanta the past three years, will move west this year because Centric, the network that produces the event, is creating a three-day “experience” based around the star-studded gathering.
A spokesperson for Centric said Las Vegas presented unique opportunities to include a comedy showcase and concert to supplement the iconic awards show, which is expected to take place in November.
Atlanta is still the site of the BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will tape here next month (more details coming tomorrow) and air Oct. 9. According to Centric, the city “will always be a key destination for our networks’ original programming.”
The network hasn’t ruled out returning the Soul Train Awards to Atlanta in the future.

I am sure that the violence will increase exponentially in those three days. What kind of experience are they going for? Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia?

Another event leaving the city. To all the people who happy to see it go: Don’t say nothing when Park Atlanta start writing more tickets to make up for the loss revenue.

Watch ignorant people get on here and make comments less than the maturity of a 10 year old….As a resident, we need these events. They bring tax dollars and exposure to the city. What events and visitors don’t pay, you and I will in taxes!
So instead of being ignorant and racist, be concerned about the city losing one more thing that drives tourism and tax dollars.

Ahhhhhhhh the joys of Atlanta. If people really think that Soul Train represents thugs and crime, these people are the true reason Atlanta is so divided and ignorant to culture. Labeling everything that deals with Black Culture as “violent” and “rap” is like labeling anything that deals with Asian Culture as “bad driving” and “kung-fu.” Uneducated, unexposed, unaware and non-evolving people are the main reason Atlanta cannot grow. I dislike country music, but not ‘country’ people. This equation is possible.
Take your head out of your ass and embrace various cultures. The Soul Train Awards brought millions of dollars to Atlanta and top notch talent from Hollywood, internationally and regionally. Soul Train was one in the same as American Bandstand. Just a different hue. Grow up people… the Civil War ended over a century ago.
