Third Day frontman Mac Powell will try the solo thing this summer with the release of a self-titled country album.
The first single from the album, which bows Aug. 21, is “June Bug,” which he released last month through his Twitter account (@macpowell).
Powell said he’s always loved country music and produced the record with multi-instrumentalist Jason Hoard, who has toured with Third Day since 2010.
The Kennesaw-based singer plans to embark on a fall tour – dates TBA at www.macpowell.com – but also stressed that the future of Third Day is in no way endangered.
The band is reportedly finishing up a new album – produced by Brendan O’Brien – for release this fall. A spring 2013 tour is in the works as well.
