Rihanna and Drake lead this year’s MTV Video Music Awards nominations, with five nods each. Katy Perry nabbed four.
Rihanna is nominated for Video of the Year for “We Found Love” and her collaboration with Drake, “Take Care.” They’re up against Perry’s “Wide Awake,” Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls.”
The only Atlanta-related showings in the nominations appear to be from Usher, nominated for Best Male Video (“Climax”) and Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover, who grew up in Stone Mountain).
This year’s ceremony will be beamed live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. Sept. 6.
Alicia Keys and One Direction – nominated for Best New Arist and Best Pop Video (“What Makes You Beautiful”) – are the first performers announced. Keys plans to debut a song from her upcoming album.
A new category was added for this year: Best Electronic Dance Music Video with the nominees Duck Sauce, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Martin Solveig and Avicii.
