D’Angelo, Mary J. Blige coming to Chastain

The return of D’Angelo continues with his joint tour with Mary J. Blige this summer.

The duo – along with guest Melanie Fiona – will perform at Chastain Park Amphitheatre at 7 p.m. Aug. 28.

Tickets for the show – priced at $55.75-$125.75 – are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com and 1-800-745-3000.

This is a regular table set-up show, so coolers and carry-ins are welcome.

D’Angelo has been on a gradual comeback trail after being pretty much MIA for the past dozen years. Earlier this month he made a respectable return to TV, singing and playing “Untitled (How Does it Feel)” and the new “Sugar Daddy” at the BET Awards and a few days later performing at the Essence Music Festival.

This joint “Liberation” tour launches Aug. 18 in D’s home stage of Virginia and will play 20 dates. The last record found of D’Angelo playing Atlanta was in 2000 at the Fox. Please alert me if you remember differently.

Meanwhile, Blige, recently seen in “Rock of Ages,” is touring behind her 2011 album, “My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1).”

I hate when they schedule really good shows during the week. @mgh, you are absolutely correct. That area is pure hell just with the rush hour traffic each day.

ROTFL @Eric Cartman!!!!!! HILARIOUS.
I was once a huge Mary J fan, but she is a has been now. She lost me with the chitt’lin commercial. We need some fresh talent. Fantasia was next at bat but she was struck out! D’ Angelo was MIA way too long. He sould really go on back to the monastery, the bushes, or wherever he was hiding. His past fans like myself have moved on.

That show’s going to be slammin’. I saw D about 12 years ago at the Fox on the Voodoo tour – one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! I hope he’s touring with the Soulquarians again. And Mary J too? I can’t wait!

Damn, I am so tired of these outdoor concerts!!!! Between the heat, humidity and traffic these shows are really not worth the trouble. Sorry D’Angelo, I will have to catch you when your at a indoor venue :(

Was never a huge Mary J fan. I thought she was the product of tight producing. But after seeing her at the Essence Fest, I have a new found respect for her. Gave a great performance and is far from being a “has been” as someone previously posted.

Will be interested to see what type of show D puts on. The Essence crowd was pissed because he waited until the end of the set to performance tracks from the first two CD’s(albums). Keep in mind this was a crowd who sometimes is not open to non- traditional R&B music. I thought his performance overall was nice.

Saw Melanie in the Essence Superlounge that same weekend. You guys are going to be in for a treat. Solid live preformance. You can appreciate her in small-to-medium sized venues. Plus…..she is fine.

I was at the Fox performance in 2000, but I believe his performance at Chastain was after the Fox performance (Summer 2001)?
