Il Volo concert at Fox canceled

The Sept. 14 Il Volo concert at the Fox Theatre has been canceled.

The announcement cites “an unforeseen scheduling conflict” as the reason for the cancellation. There are no plans to reschedule the Atlanta date (apparently there are many scheduling conflicts in the boys’ future).

Il Volo – not to be confused with Il Divo – is the Italian trio of young men whose most recent album, “Il Volo…Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard classical chart (the group’s name means “the flight” in English).

The threesome received a huge promotional push with their performance of the Italian standard “O Sole Mio” on a May 2011 appearance on “American Idol.”

Refunds are available at point of purchase; those purchased through Ticketmaster online or via phone will be automatically refunded.

Another GBTV failure. They were pushed harder than the polio vaccine a month back with incredible deals of close in seats for just a few hundred…this is, pure and simple proof, that this town has no significant interest to hear arrogant 16 year olds belt out opera

Well, I was sure “scheduling conflict” was code for poor sales. But the TM interactive site shows solid sales. It’s still up.

So it must be code for something else.

@Jimmie – if you mean GPB, it was aired once – I checked the schedule online. Try PBA – routinely known for airing a show 16,123 times in a pledge drive.

II Volo??? Who??? Never EVER heard of them until I read this article. Only reason I read it was because I saw the headline and thought, “What in the heck is II Volo?”

I went & bought tickets at Fox’s Box office and they had few seats left, so i know it was not because of poor sales. Hope they will be back in the future.

Maybe it was cancelled because they are a over hyped, untallented, American idol created , crap band?

rudeness is not a virtue. stupidity is shameful. most of the comments left here contain both. Il Volo is obviously above folk of this nature. I will pay double the price to see them any where , any time.

I will try to educate some of you about Il Volo. They are not an American Idol creation, they are young Italian singers aged 17-19 who have the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. They sing a genre called Pop Opera, mixing both old Italian standards with new pop songs written especially for them by the likes of Diane Warren. Take the time to watch a video or two on YouTube, I don’t think you’ll regret it. Having said all that, now I am going to complain. This is the 5th concert that I have had tickets for that they have cancelled. They are being grossly and negligibly mismanaged and if something doesn’t change its going to ruin 3 fabulous young careers before they ever get started good. I’m mad this time though, I have been willing to travel all over the country to see these young men perform but I am getting tired of having my money sit in their manager’s back pocket earning interest for a month before the concerts get cancelled.

These are seriously talented young men. So sorry that all the fans who wanted to see them in Atlanta (and apparently Charlotte) won’t get to now. If you don’t know who they are, check them out on YouTube. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b06_ffOYE4U

I am sorry that the fans from Atlanta and Charlotte will not be able to see them due to the cancellations.I know I would be very upset if the concert I am going to would be cancelled. These young talented Italian singers have the most beautiful voices you have ever heard. Which by the way, if you don’t know who they are and haven’t heard them should really keep your comments to yourself. You can check them out on You-Tube:

il volo is the best group of any music category that we out wether its in english or spanish or any other language they are extremely talented and not only do they sing like angels themselves they can and will beat anyone else that sings with them it’s more than obious that I AM FAN of them so for anyone that has such an un-educated comment just my lovely friend JO said watch a video or two or more just type in il volo on you tube and you’ll see that they have some many videos of them during their tour last year here in the us as well as their latin american tour that finished, so for all of those non il volo fans if you dont know them then why make a comment.
educate yourselves before you make any comments about this boys oh yeah by the way search il volo on facebook and you will find sooooooooo many fan pages !!!!!!!!!!!!! of them so just educate yourself before writting something that has no one bit of sence.

I’m very sad to see these shows cancelled. I’ve seen these young men perform and they are extremely talented and wonderful performers. I don’t think it was lack of sales, I spoke to someone there at the Fox who said they were doing some type of PBS Special. PBS doesn’t make specials with fly-by-night “artists” who have no talent. Their first PBS Special was a huge success. Barbra Streisand doesn’t tour with those who are less than professional and spectacular. If you only come on here to criticize, you probably need to find something else to do. Il Volo are a wonderful trio of artists who are blessed with more talent than most… I can’t wait to see them again. I hope somehow those who are disappointed will have another chance to see them soon!

I agree with so many of the comments made here about Il Volo, but the comments made by people with bad manners and poor taste, are trash in themselves!!! Il Volo has three very nice young men, who are gifted with absolutely wonderful voices. I have seen them a couple of times, and had opportunities to speak with them, not just a hi and goodbye! I saw their friendliness with people as they were talking on these occasions. I feel bad that some people who were looking forward to hearing these guys sing, won’t be able to because of these concert being cancelled and maybe even another one is also cancelled. Too bad for the fans and for the boys. They are being pushed somewhat, and I guess that is what is needed when first starting out. I wonder what the real reason is, a conflict in schedule , maybe. Maybe a bigger and better opportunity has come up for those dates, like singing with BS. Just when is her tour to be? Too bad for all.

@jimmie ok so first, it’s operatic pop, and second, it is my absolute DREAM to see them in concert and meet them. (and I am in Phoenix, and I know that I would be DEVISTATED if anything happened.) they are talented, sweet, hard-working, intelligent 17, 17, and 19 year olds. They are NOT arrogant. Not to be rude, but I guess you don’t diserve to go to this wonderful concert. And to all the Atlanta Il Volo fans: I am soooo sorry!!! Maybe next time!

I’m surprised to see there is this many people in Atlanta, just as disappointment as me that IL Volo won’t be stopping in Atlanta. I’m sorry to say this, but the culture here is just not up to speed with the International world to even realize that it has dropped the ball again.
Jo, I don’t believe those young tenors are being mismanaged…. The people in Atlanta, and other areas of the south (and probably out of ignorance), are not showing their support so I’m not surprised for the cancellations here, and other venues throughout the south. Maybe if those three upcoming superstars wore cowboy hats they might have sold some tickets ! I saw Bocelli in July, 2001, when he first arrived in the USA, at Liberty State Park, NJ. The event was amazing, and the audience certainly showed their support and appreciation. Months later, when Bocelli arrived in Atlanta, the audience sat in their seats and looked as though they were attending someone’s funeral. The moment I got word of this cancellation here, I purchased more tickets for IL Volo at a location in the country where I know it will be a go. Wake up Atlanta !!

This cancellation has nothing to do with a lack of demand or (in Jimmie’s case) getting a clue…. it likely has to do with the fact that IL VOLO will be on tour with Barbra Streisand starting in October… they’ll be singing songs with her, as well as while she has dressing changes. Barbra first met IL VOLO (when they were unknown in the USA) back in the Feb. 2010 WE ARE THE WORLD – 25 – HAITI songfest. Quincy Jones heard them on an Italian TV competition and was super impressed with their voices…. as was Barbra, Celine Dion, Enrique Iglasius and others…

Back in Feb. of this year one of IL VOLO let it slip out (on Italian TV) that they were going to sing with Barbra Streisand on her tour starting in October. I think that was supposed to have been kept a secret, since the Streisand folks are mum on the subject.

But with the heavy touring schedule for IL VOLO in August and September… there was likely no time for rehearsals with Streisand…. and this is the likely scheduling conflict that has ensued. It’s not that Raleigh and Atlanta are not sophisticated enough for Operatic Pop… it’s that unfortunately they have to do some Streisand rehearsals.

I doubt they would cancel Atlanta, while leaving smaller places like Louisville on the schedule based on demand…. (no offense Louisville).

If you “have no idea who IL VOLO” is then I wonder what sand you’ve buried your head in!!!! AND they are NOT 16 yr olds singing opera!!! They sing POP with operatic voices – kind of what Cirque de Soliel is to a kindergarten playground routine. (Look up Cirque de Soliel – and PULEEEEEASE do not BRAG about your cultural ignorance online. Kind of embarrassing, y’know?)

…. one last thing… back in 2006 Streisand sang with a group (put together by Simon Cowell)… a quartet of 3 Tenors and a Baritone…. known as IL DIVO… not to be confused by the trio 1/3rd their age… IL VOLO.

So do a Google search on “Streisand IL DIVO”… to see how IL VOLO will likely interact on a Streisand concert…

Sadly it won’t help the disappointed concertgoers in Raleigh and Atlanta (perhaps those concerts will be rescheduled)… but it should help IL VOLO boost their career on the world stage…

Cheers,
GerRoland

P.S. As someone who was at the IL VOLO DVD PBS Concert taping at the Detroit Opera House back in October… they guys are really very humble (and grateful) 17-19 year olds… who still have to take out the garbage when the return home to their family in Italy…

Somone commented they are a “American Idol” created band! WRONG!I have watched every performance televised so far and they are amazing! And I know for a fact that there were hardly any seats available at the Fox for their performance. Our family had tickets through Ticketmaster, bought them the first day they became available months ago. I am more than disappointed. But, as Atlanta is much more receptive to Hip Hop thugs, I was surprised they even scheduled it to begin with!

These three young singers are fantastico! They are working their “butts” off to launch a career that will offer endless possibilities for a promising and fulfilling future for themselves as well as their families.
Their voices are truly a gift from God and they are blessed with a talent that most of us only dream about!. God Bless the three of yu..

Thank you, GerRoland, for your explanation of what has happened. They were so heavily booked, I was sort of wondering when they would have the time to rehearse with Barbra. Their concerts are always well attended. God has blessed these young men by giving them the voices of angels, but in concerts sometimes it’s difficult to hear them because so many loving and devoted fans sing along with them. In one way it must be an honor and gratifying to them to realize that their fans know the words to the Italian, Spanish, French etc songs they sing, but in another way it sort of difficult to hear their beautiful oices over the sounds of the crowd.

They were guest performers not contestants on American Idol. I just love seeing them in Arena Di Verona, Il Volo Un Amore Grande, which I’ve seen on YouTube at least 25 times. I think they are the best singing group in the world today.

Haven’t heard of them – you guys must be kidding. Their first album is on its way to being double platinum. Il Volo Fan Club, Seattle has a petition on line for Il Volo fans to sign regarding cancellations and rescheduling. I personally believe this happened because of last minute changes in planning on Barbra S. management’s side. Il Volo’s managment probably was greatly distressed and will do their best to reschedule. Also, maybe something else unforseen came up, you never know until you read about it later on.
