Jennifer Lopez tells Ryan Seacrest she is leaving “American Idol”

Yes, Randy, that is indeed two gone. Your move, dawg. Photo credit: Photo credit: Michael Becker/AP

Jennifer Lopez confirmed on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show that she, too, is leaving “American Idol.”

The singer-actress-dancer-expert-clothing-wearer reluctantly told the “Idol” host during a 15-minute interview that “something has to give.”

“I honestly feel the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I put on hold because I love ‘Idol’ so much,” she said. “I feel we had an amazing run.”

When Seacrest asked if the door was open for her to return, she said, “No matter what you guys need over there, I’m always going to be here.”

Lopez originally signed to do one year on the singing talent show, but wound up doing two because she “fell in love” with the show and the “Idol” “family.”

Yesterday, Steven Tyler announced his departure. That leaves Randy Jackson – an original panelist – as the only one standing. Rumors are circulating that Mariah Carey is in talks to join the judging team…but who knows who will be on that team.

For all other things “Idol,” make sure to visit my colleague Rodney Ho’s blog.

I agree with Ellen. ‘Idol’ has jumped the shark. The first big mistake they made was adding Kira Dioguardi (I’m sure I messed up the spelling of her name, but you know who I’m talking about) to the judge panel. It has been downhill since then. I’m glad that Tyler is gone. He didn’t add any comments of value to the panel. This past season was the worst. All of the standing ovations, ugh!

just for good measure, The View could be tossed on the heap too.

I am so delighted J Lo is gone. It seemed like her attitude was that show existed to promote J Lo, and the singing competition was secondary. So yippee, no more cheesy performances by her and her boytoy, and no more lame comments (”I am getting goosies!”). Has she ever just stood up on stage and simply sung a song without the whole entourage of dancers, wind machines, etc? I doubt it. I hope they get Jimmy Lovine to be a judge.

I only watch the auditions to laugh at the idiots who think they can actually sing, but after that i never keep watching. If the show continues it might help to have a panal of judges that can actually sing! I mean lets face it JLo had a music career because she is an amazing dancer/preformer not for her vocal chops. I think having a real songstress, like Mariah would be great, plus she is a little cooky, could be entertaining!

Race and gender should not be the criteria for selecting judges. But if I have to sit and look at Mariah wiggling and spilling her rack out of her clothes on every show, count me OUT! The sad thing is I think she is really talented, but her “look at me, I’m sexy” demeanor cheapens her and will distract from the contestants.

I agree with Ellen too… Idol has already over-stayed its welcome. I, like countless other TV viewers, am already burned out on this reality TV over-load.

With Fox renewing Idol for season 12, and having the taks of hiring 2 new judges. I hoping that season 12 will be its last.

As for other reality shows… I’d really like for CBS to end The Amazing Race… not sure on if and when they plan on ending Survivor either. NBC needs to end The Biggest Loser. Other than Fox needing to end Idol, they need to end Hell’s Kitchen too. ABC would be better off ending The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

We’d like to see quality, scripted programming for a change.

Some questions to ponder:

1. Why do people think, just because they quit watching something YEARS ago, that it shouldn’t be entertaining to others? The world does not revolve around an individual’s point of view.

2. Why do people think, just because they don’t like something, no one else should like it either?

3. Why do people think that just because people spend time talking to other people on a blog that it is the only thing they EVER do and they obviously don’t “have a life”?

4. Why do people think that anyone who doesn’t like an actor or singer or performer that they really like is a “hater”?

We don’t live in George Orwell’s 1984. We don’t all have to think alike to be good people.

You slayed all of them…That is the Statement of the year..that should be placed in a Frame in bold letters at the Beginning of each blog..Numbers 2, 3, 4. are thought provoking questions..but some folks probably will never be able to answer those question. I guess thats just how humans are.

The show needs to end when it becomes obvious to everyone the judges have pre-selected their winner. Example — the 2nd place finisher in this last season. Voters made it clear they didn’t want her at the top, but who cares, the judges did.

Ms Deirde — Someone much more brilliant than I once said, and I’ll paraphrase here, ” A good relationship isn’t made up of people thinking alike. It’s more people thinking together.” That being said, I tossed in the towel on Idol some years ago. Like Lopez, something had to give (in my TV time) and Idol drew the short straw. No regrets for I’m happy to be done with it but be that as it may, others are drawn to the talent show and therein lies the old adadge, ‘To each, their own.’ Just my 2 dollars worth ( dang inflation).

So, Peggy, extending your logic, …only beautiful women could judge beauty contests, only gymnasts could judge gymnastic events, dancers – dance competitions, etc., etc., etc.

And, horror of horrors, should only politicians be able to judge or elect other politicians?

I do understand where you’re coming from but the music business has discovered and developed hundreds of great artists through the talent of folks like Jimmy Iovine, L.A. Reid, Clive Davis, Berry Gordy, even Simon Cowell. And not one of them would be classified as a singer.

I will say Idol will surely probably hold the record of Musical Judges(Musical Chairs :-) at the rate the show is going. But as always all things come to an end and run its course..Its certainly a way to pick up a fat pay check and ad spark to your career if it started to kind of idle..there are a ton of folks that could use the paycheck and can actually sing better than any of the judges past or present could sing and that have since departed the show.

.If any of the original judges were judged for singing All would have been voted off at audition. It would be nice to see some Really good singers be judges..far too many to list here..but certainly Better than whats left the show..ie Paula Abdul, Kara, Ellen (Omg worst judge ever if not the funniest) J-Lo and screaming funny rocker old schooler, Mad Man Steve :-) (I liked Steve, but I think he Missed being infront of the mike himself doing what made him who he is. But I wont be too hard on Non singing judges. I can think of three who could not sing a note but Knew who had talent..they being Berry Gordy Jr, Clive Davis, and Phil Spector..none could sing a single note..But they Sure Knew talent..and who had the “IT” factor…

In any case..I will tune in as usual just to see what Jaw dropping suprises Idol has in store for the public. AI aint going out without a fight. Jaws will continue to be on the floor mine included..but thats what keeps me tunning in…thats American Idols gimmick ..the unexpected.

Idol fan, but Judges are way overpaid and poorly selected among the inner circle of the business. Lopez is on one of Iovine’s labels, and some new names suggested, are as well.

Tyler and Lopez were 2/3rds of a sham panel that did a poor job of selecting talent and then played favoritism games that did not sit well with many who watch the show. If the TV audience were voting, on judges, they would not have lasted past the top 8.

Their personal selections to round-out the top 13, were the first out. That would be the first clue as to their expertise in managing a talent contest.

The public is mostly sick & tired of 1, 2 or all of the judges and their game. Ratings will not improve with Tyler & Lopez and Fox knows their advertising rates are under pressure, They were not seriously even offered a new contract.

They will again spend large sums to bring-in new names, create a new publicity storm and try to hold and improve ratings.
