The singer-actress-dancer-expert-clothing-wearer reluctantly told the “Idol” host during a 15-minute interview that “something has to give.”
“I honestly feel the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I put on hold because I love ‘Idol’ so much,” she said. “I feel we had an amazing run.”
When Seacrest asked if the door was open for her to return, she said, “No matter what you guys need over there, I’m always going to be here.”
Lopez originally signed to do one year on the singing talent show, but wound up doing two because she “fell in love” with the show and the “Idol” “family.”
Yesterday, Steven Tyler announced his departure. That leaves Randy Jackson – an original panelist – as the only one standing. Rumors are circulating that Mariah Carey is in talks to join the judging team…but who knows who will be on that team.

I have not watched Idol since Diana DeGarmo. That are too many shows of its kind now with Duet and the NBC version. I do not care who they stick in this slot as this show has already run its course.

Ms Deirde — Someone much more brilliant than I once said, and I’ll paraphrase here, ” A good relationship isn’t made up of people thinking alike. It’s more people thinking together.” That being said, I tossed in the towel on Idol some years ago. Like Lopez, something had to give (in my TV time) and Idol drew the short straw. No regrets for I’m happy to be done with it but be that as it may, others are drawn to the talent show and therein lies the old adadge, ‘To each, their own.’ Just my 2 dollars worth ( dang inflation).

This may sound crazy but it just might work. It’s a singing competition, right. Idol has never done this before but I really think they should get a judge that can actually SING! So far Idol hired 2 dancers (Abdul/Lopez) to judge singers….SMH

this show is worthless..i kinda enjoyed it when simon was on there…at least he knew his business. but with j-lo all she cared about was her looks and the attention she got from the fans, steve tyler never offered anything constructive and randy obviously needs someone to show him how to dress instead of looking like he walked out of the hood

first of all you need to be able to sing and have talent to judge other folks..Jlo had neither how she got as far as she has beats me..she cant sing or act…what happen to real talent..j lo is a studio creation she has no talent..is it because she looks and acts white is the reason for her sucsess????

No, not Mariah, she’ll just be another J Lo in her critiques. I love to hear her sing, but a Judge, no. I like Jimmy Iovine. At least he’s honest and right 90% of the time. Got so sick of the standing O’s this past season. Will miss Steven, he’’s entertaining.

This is the best thing that could happened to this show! Good-bye to Tyler and J-Lo — and good riddance. Time to let Jimmy Iovine judge the performances BEFORE the voting instead of after. Maybe with his objectivity Randy will become objective again, as he was when Simon was there.

“WHO CARES. I think Idol should go for a judge that can actually sing. I know that sound crazy but I think it can work.” – Peggy, July 13th, 2012, 4:15 pm
So, Peggy, extending your logic, …only beautiful women could judge beauty contests, only gymnasts could judge gymnastic events, dancers – dance competitions, etc., etc., etc.
And, horror of horrors, should only politicians be able to judge or elect other politicians?
I do understand where you’re coming from but the music business has discovered and developed hundreds of great artists through the talent of folks like Jimmy Iovine, L.A. Reid, Clive Davis, Berry Gordy, even Simon Cowell. And not one of them would be classified as a singer.

I will say Idol will surely probably hold the record of Musical Judges(Musical Chairs
at the rate the show is going. But as always all things come to an end and run its course..Its certainly a way to pick up a fat pay check and ad spark to your career if it started to kind of idle..there are a ton of folks that could use the paycheck and can actually sing better than any of the judges past or present could sing and that have since departed the show.
.If any of the original judges were judged for singing All would have been voted off at audition. It would be nice to see some Really good singers be judges..far too many to list here..but certainly Better than whats left the show..ie Paula Abdul, Kara, Ellen (Omg worst judge ever if not the funniest) J-Lo and screaming funny rocker old schooler, Mad Man Steve
(I liked Steve, but I think he Missed being infront of the mike himself doing what made him who he is. But I wont be too hard on Non singing judges. I can think of three who could not sing a note but Knew who had talent..they being Berry Gordy Jr, Clive Davis, and Phil Spector..none could sing a single note..But they Sure Knew talent..and who had the “IT” factor…
In any case..I will tune in as usual just to see what Jaw dropping suprises Idol has in store for the public. AI aint going out without a fight. Jaws will continue to be on the floor mine included..but thats what keeps me tunning in…thats American Idols gimmick ..the unexpected.

Idol fan, but Judges are way overpaid and poorly selected among the inner circle of the business. Lopez is on one of Iovine’s labels, and some new names suggested, are as well.
Tyler and Lopez were 2/3rds of a sham panel that did a poor job of selecting talent and then played favoritism games that did not sit well with many who watch the show. If the TV audience were voting, on judges, they would not have lasted past the top 8.
Their personal selections to round-out the top 13, were the first out. That would be the first clue as to their expertise in managing a talent contest.
The public is mostly sick & tired of 1, 2 or all of the judges and their game. Ratings will not improve with Tyler & Lopez and Fox knows their advertising rates are under pressure, They were not seriously even offered a new contract.
They will again spend large sums to bring-in new names, create a new publicity storm and try to hold and improve ratings.

Johnny Rotten. Ted Nugent. Outspoken, direct, funny, sure to be controversial, guaranteed ratings.

Sean Diddy Combs is the obvious choice. He is as brutally honest as Simon and obviously knows his stuff. He is the best guest coach they have by a mile.

Time to call it off—it’s too long and how some of them make it as far as they do is a mystery to me. You get some gifted singers from the show, but it’s the same ole same ole at the end. Just call it quits and let something else come on.

You are entitled to your opinion and I mean you no disrespect, but if you don’t like the show, why don’t you watch something else. There are obviously millions of people who still enjoy it. I am one of them.
I don’t get to watch much TV (thank God for TiVo) but it is one of my favorite shows and I look forward to every season. Even though my favorite has only won once (Kelly Clarkston). By the way, my most favorite show is “The Apprentice,” “Celebrity” or otherwise.
Go Falcons!!!
