If you’re buying tickets to any upcoming shows at the Fox Theatre, get ready to purchase them through new means.

After more than two decades, the venerable Atlanta venue has parted ways with Ticketmaster and will now sell tickets through www.FoxAtlTix.com as part of a partnership with Atlanta-based Ticket Alternative.

The change was made to give the venue more control over the ticket-buying experience.

Kristen Delaney, director of marketing and public relations at the Fox, said they have been working with a local law firm to crack down on “cybersquatting,” when ticket resellers present themselves as the Fox’s (or any venue’s) ticket outlet and then sell tickets at an obscene markup.

“By telling customers to come directly to us for tickets, we can provide them peace of mind,” she said.

Those hopeful that a change might also equate to a dip in those pesky ticketing fees, well, don’t get too excited. Delaney said she does expect fees to be lower but, “there are costs involved in running a ticketing operation including staff, running a fulfillment center to mail out tickets and having a call center.”

A $76 base price ticket to Nicki Minaj at the Fox July 22, sold through the new site, has a $14.25 ticketing fee tacked onto it and a ticket to “Peter Pan” this August at the Fox is $53 with an $11.60 fee through the new site.

Meanwhile, a $69.50 ticket to Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band at the Fox July 6, sold through Ticketmaster, has a $15.15 fee added to it and a similarly priced Roger Waters ticket at Philips Arena June 13,  has $11.90 added to a $79 ticket on Ticketmaster.

Shows at the Fox that initially went on sale via Ticketmaster will remain that way.

Representatives from Ticket Alternative will also be able to better guide customers with parking or dining questions, Delaney said. Plans are in the works to establish remote ticket locations within the Atlanta metro area.
