I saw Michael Franti 3 times in March 2010 when his band opened for John Mayer and they are AWESOME. I will be seeing the Beach Boys at New Orleans Jazz Fest next month along with Tom Petty, John Mayer, and Bruce Springsteen as well as the usual local regulars Dr John and The Neville Brothers. Steve Winwood is amazing as well and I’d love to see him again. Franti is worth it! The line up isn’t as good as Jazz Fest but it is decent.

Keep in mind there are normally 2 different Chastain series line ups. One is for the older crowd (this line up) and there is another one that will be announced later, that will include some younger, hipper acts.

Yeah, this is a pretty weak line up. Sting and EWF are the only one’s I’d consider a ticket for, but no coolers as a restriction on Sting takes the fun out of seeing him at Chastain.

Winwood/Franti looks good. Wonder who TBA is; Chastain’s site says a reunited supergroup.
Would buy a miniseries, but this series, unlike Classic Chastain, does not tell you what seats you are buying. Been burned on that before so no thanks.

@Mojo322, I’m guessing to make sure that the concert isn’t ruined by incessant talking that goes on front and center while tables/coolers are in play. Tends to turn Chastain into dinner with background music while others and the performers have to put up with all the talking.
Check out Garrison Keillor’s Chastain experience via the googles, for example.

mojo322 – most shows at Chastain are for the wine and cheese crowd who don’t really care who is on the stage. When an artist wants to connect with the audience, they request a no-table set-up where they fill in the tabled areas with rows of seats like a normal concert. With a no-table set-up, there is no room for coolers and bring your own. The only drawback to this (other than Chastain being a lousy venue with a decibel limit and an eleven o’clock curfew) is that they tend to run out of beer.

Should check out the FREE shows in Norcross beginning Memorial Day weekend and every two weeks thereafter. Similar setup in Dunwoody and Duluth.
Sting is terrific in concert. Sarah McLachlan has some beutiful music, and can’t go wrong with EW&F rocking the place. You don’t have enough money to pay me to see Willie Nelson. Love the Beach Boys, but that was 30+ years ago. Would rather watch them on television.

They need to replace the individuals who obtain talent for this venue. Every year it’s the same old artists. Another year I will not be attending.

The age-ist comments in this thread are rather distressing. Wheelchairs and walkers…geezers…this kind of commentary has no place in the arts. True artistry knows no age – it can appear in young people and older people alike.
The line-up is what it is. I plan on seeing at least two or three of these. The reunion of the surviving Beach Boys is truly historical and worth seeing. Earth Wind and Fire with an orchestra? Great idea…and looking forward to it. Chicago with the Doobie Brothers – nice pairing of two classic seventies bands. Al Green with the Blind Boys from Alabama – all legendary and worth an evening out.
As usual, the prime legitimate complaints about Chastain are the prices – $50 for LAWN seats??? – the volume (always low due to noise restrictions), and the audience (the people who shell out for the best seats often don’t even turn their heads toward the stage once the performance begins…they treat the show as if it were simply background music for their conversation). So, while I will attend a handful of Chastain concerts this year, my real “beef” is that the concerts aren’t in a more artist-friendly venue (the Fox, anybody?) and the fact it costs more to park the car now than a ticket to the show did years ago (when parking was FREE in the lots around Chastain).

Not like the days when I saw Cream with Eric Clapton, and Vanilla Fudge played first. Most of Chastains artists the last few years are the past their prime, past due everything performers, but I must admit ZZ Top were pretty good there, but hell, they are getting old too.

It really doesn’t matter that they have crappy acts at Chastain. It’s easily the worst venue in town if you are interested in actually hearing the performance. It’s no wonder quality acts don’t want to play there.

Is it a rule that the performers at Chastain have to be older than the venue itself? Pretty soon, Tony Bennett will be the only one eligible to play Chastain.

I’ll be there…I’m leaving my wheelchair at home you little whipper snappers. You show NO respect for your elders. Stay in school and maybe you all will learn the reason why the veteran shows return every year – we knew how to save our MONEY for our golden years. It’s our dollars that attract these shows every year, not You youngins, not you BMW- Lexus-Mercedes Benz, bad credit having, out of wedlock baby – making, job hopping, spoiled, unappreciative you have the freedom to enjoy your time doing what you enjoy, take everything for granted little brats. Do something nice for someone and help someone instead of worrying about this summer’s list of acts at Chastain Park. Enjoy your weekend elsewhere. Happy and Proud Vet

As an Atlanta native, I’ve been going to Chastain since the late 60’s. Most of you folks have no idea of the city venues past because you migrated here for some reason in the past, probably to live a better life than where you originally were from.

We gave up our Chastain table a few years ago b/c the schedue was so bad. Chastain is so nice, but the people who are booked there are horrible. I remember seeing Cheap Trick and Lover Boy there years ago, and befoe that, Don Henley was there. Where are the bands like that. They could even book some good country bands, but the bands that have are the pits.

My hubby & I attended Chastain last year to see Earth, Wind & Fire perform for merely an hour! It was very disappointing! There was no opening act and they came on stage around 8:10 and was done by 9:15PM. The crowd was very upset! And then they had the nerve to promote VIP backstage passes for additional $50. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I felt bad for people that bought Tables. People were REALLY upset. Never ever again. Although I love EW&F…never again will I pay to see them. I guees I will have to catch them on Bootleg or HBO!!!!

The reason there are no new acts scheduled is because they all suck. stay home and watch your american idol if you want new crappy “talent”. fact is these older bands have more talent even in their afterlife than these clowns we have today.

They should re name it FOOD FEST. I saw Diana Ross two yrs ago and folks took Hours setting up their picnic tables. Ate and drank like it was the last supper. Talked and Chattered through the whole show. No doubt many were drunk by the time the show started(one hr late) I dont blame Ross I would not come out until everyone is Seated. not with their backs to me setting up tables. Also it was hot and humid. Never again will I go in June. Maybe if its cool but that heat nearly killed me.
