Of course Adele is happy - she just swept the Grammys! Photo: Matt Sayles (AP).

Even if you follow music only casually, there’s no way you could have been surprised at Adele’s sweep. And a well-deserved one at that. Her “21″ album has resuscitated an industry on life support for years and with pure music, too.

So that part of the Grammys was kind of a given.

But what did you think about the rest? Were the Whitney Houston tributes sufficient? Surprised at the five wins for the Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl gets my vote for best speech of the night)? Psyched for Springsteen’s upcoming tour? Hope that Nicki Minaj decides to become a banker so we never have to see her on stage again?

Sound off below while I rewind my TiVo to re-watch that awesome show-closer with Paul McCartney, Springsteen and Grohl.

I enjoyed some of the talent on the Grammys but Taylor’s song was out there. I was bored. I would not have watched if it had not been for Whitney Houston’s passing. I wanted to see how they would celebrate her life. Jennifer Hudson has really come into her own. She sang from her heart. Nicki’s a great talent and I have her on my ipod working out in the gym. I didnt see her perform last night but she is a good talent.

Although I generally like Nicki Manaj and think she is a great talent, someone needs to tell her there is such a things as “contrived” and “trying too hard”. As for the rest: loved the Rhianna, Cold Play, Bruno Mars, the Beach Boys, of course Adele deserved every honor, and would have loved to have heard some more of Glen Campbell’s hits as he did them, Galveston would have been nice. As someone said people should hear his greatest hits. Not a big fan of Jennifer Hudson, but I thought she was superb in the tribute to Whitney. One big disappointment is that I thought they were going to do a tribute to Diana Ross. I’m thinking they didn’t. I was really looking forward to them honoring her.

If they want to honor someone how about soldiers and police who have died in the line of duty not some has been drug addict. Granted, one time she had a lovely voice and made millions of dollars. Sad that Whitney allowed drugs, etc to de-rail her career and apparently lead to her demise. Just goes to show, once again, that all the fame and fortune in the world cannot guarantee you happiness or peace. See Michael Jackson, Elvis, etc. Hope the young artists get the message. Hope everyone gets the message. Gotta trust in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, as Lord and Savior!

I though it was the worst Grammy’s ever. I remember there was a time when the Grammys didn’t allow lip syncing. That was the reason people watched them over other award shows. They have sunk down to the level of VMA’s. But I have to admit they do tend to award better. Not giving Nikki Minaj “Best New Artist” was the only way they still have credibility with me.

First we must understand and stop comparing today’s music with that of yesterday. The business is not the same and the artists are not cut from the same cloth. 20-30 years ago there was not much money to make in the music biz (not like today) so yes, the artists were more in tune with their craft because they ‘loved” what they did. Nowadays, artists for the most part are in it to make money. And guess what, they will not make money if they do not put out music that appeals to the audience that BUYS it, which is the younger generation. They younger people love Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj etc. so the artists make music they’re fans want to hear. Nicki Minaj case in point actually is a very good rapper(you’d have to hear her underground music BEFORE she became a household name) but the problem is she goes with the gimmicks to sell records. But if we have been paying attention, this has been the case for quite some time now and its time for us to stop acting like we are surprised.

How many people in the audience could pass a drug test. We worship people and make role models of people unworthly of it. You might say I am old fashioned but I think the whole thing is way overblown. I could care less is someone wins the Grammy. Whitney Houston will be honored and talked about with more respect than 30 Seals killed protecting our freedoms. As so well spoken by Rhett Butler “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn.”

Before anyone accuses me of being glad Houston is dead after my previous post let me set you straight. I think her rendition of the National Anthem in 1991 is the gold standard by which anyone who tries to sing it should be judged. But all this outpouring of public grief is unwarranted. A simple dignified, “we are sorry for her passing” would be plenty. She was not Saint Whitney who did untold good works in this world. I agree with the writer above who said her story should be a warning to all these young singers/

!5 years later, people are still talking about AND GRIEVING. the death of “Princess” Diana, so forgive us please, if 2 days later, some in the public are still grieving the death of a great singer like Whitney Houston. Whatever it was that killed her; drugs, booze, prescription medication, whatever; does not lessen the fact that those who did love her are missing her. Because you don’t see what others saw in her, makes her no less dead and no less important than someone who was killed in a car crash, or other means. A person does not have to be a Saint to be loved, missed or grieved, and you do not get to determine how one is to go about the grieving process, simply because it does not suit YOUR taste.

I loved Adele for sure; Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and B. Raitt, Bruno Mars ,and let’s not forget Glen Campbell. Was glad Lady “Gag-gah” wasn’t on stage and she should have asked Nicki “Mirage”( I thought I was seeing a train wreck), to join her. Taylor Swift reminded me of Minnie Pearl on Hee-Haw years ago, and I swear, all the musical award shows are determined to give that little girl as many awards as she can hold, just to make up for that Kanye West fiasco years ago. That little girl is not that good.

From a sista’s perspective (and believe me I have many):

Aside the lost of Ms. Whitney Houston, I don’t think her death was the reason the show sucked! Adele, Bruce Springstein, Beach Boys, Taylor Swift performed well – Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Aliciia Keyes, Chris Brown, etc and several others did half #$*& jobs. But what can we expect when they can’t sing like their mentors!

Lucky for me I didn’t see that trashy Minaj trick, I turned the channel. I missed Jennifer Hudson too, though I picked up her performance via youtube. I wasn’t impressed – it was a sour night full of sorry entertainers.

*By the way, I was impressed with the Beach Boys – they were really good. Especially since I didn’t like them growing up – but seems today’s music is just noise!

Chris Brown was embarassing to watch and then turns around and gets best R&B award? Dude never sings. Just dances. Nikki Whatshername was stupid. She can talk fast. Big deal. That whole thing was a joke. Loved Foo Fighters. The Gleen Cambell thing was strange. He looked PO’d. The best parts were that Kanye was not there and the Chipotle commerical. Oh and Rhinna sounded like always..loses it after one note. The Kardashians should start a band. Apparently, all you need is to have the looks and they can produce and auto-tune your CD and then you can lip sync the rest of your life.

From the time Chris Brown was on through Nikki Manji———- it was a waste
other than that area it was pretty good.
Chris Brown can not sing, moves bad and I am not sure what he is even about, Foo Fighters not impressed with them, hated the electronic mouse,,,,, really hated the club scene thing——— if this is what clubs are like today, glad I am missing it…………… Nikki Manji over the top, after her introduction, I expected great,,,,,,,,,,,,, saw something else.

I’m thrillled that Chris Brown is able to focus on his talent. Not the trampy/sleazy/slutty Rhi. She looked like she should have been on the strool instead of at a Black-Tie Affair. I’m thrilled that Chris won the Grammy he deserved. Yet, I find Rhi’s behavior very offensive. I was bought to tears when the Classy Jennifer Hudson paid tribute to Whitney. Not sure who the hillbilly Miranda Lambert is. She looked like she dressed in Wally’s World. She had the nerve to question the Grammy’s decision to allow Chris Brown to perform twice. The bigger question is”WTH are you.” Hold your head high young brother. Continue to focus on your craft. Not the haters or debaters……Team Breezy…!!!

I was disappointed with the Grammy show last evening. Adele, congrats she has a wonderful singing voice, much deserved. Jennifer Hudson thanks for your “threebute” (three minutes of a great song) to Whitney Houston. Chris Brown, what was your performance really about…Nicki Minaj…what was that? There should have been more tributes to Whitney more R and B acts added to the show, it seems as if both were intentionally left out.

It was refreshing to see an artist (Adele) actually showcase their talent without relying on gimmicks. I also love that she doesn’t feel the need to lose weight in order to satisfy music execs and/or her critics. I wish there were more artists who left out the over-the-top theatrics and just let their voice be the showcase. The highlights for me were Adele, Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters, Glen Campbell, Paul McCartney, and Alicia Keys/Bonnie Raitt.

@Amy in the ATL …..As a woman of pride and dignity, I try to carry myself as such. The situation with Chris Brown happened 3years ago. He has done all, and more, that was required of him for redemption. In the meanwhile, have you seen how the supposedly abused Rhi carries herself. I’d like to point out that one must earn respect; and that is done by carrying youself in a respectable manner. She Does Not.! Check out on “YouTube” her behavior at her Islands Carnival Festival. She’s just nasty..!!! So if anything it was disrespectful for her to be at such a dignified affair. I pray that my Son dosen’t bring anyone like her home.

That’s why our country/society is going downhill, because people like you forgive/forget and allow some low life trash like Chris Brown to have a career in entertainment. What he did was no “mistake”. When you condone and forgive people like Chris Brown you are really wanting forgiveness for your own skeletons.

Long before Chris Brown made the mistake that he did, our country was spiraling downhill for various other reasons, that had nothing to do with him. No, the absence of a God in too many of our hearts, is at the root of so much of the mindless hatred we choose to hang on to, and the unwillingness to forgive others that don’t look quite like us. If you think that Chris Brown in his short 23 years is the gold standard for domestic abuse, you obviously have been living in that covered cave, for far too long. What he did was wrong and cowardly, and not at all representative of how most men treat their women; but like ALL men, “we have all sinned, and fell short of the glory of God”. (I’m sure that statement will offend some of you, and therein is the initial problem). Forgive that YOUNG man, wish him well; but if you can’t, you can always google all the other “forgiven and forgotten” batterers, who do look like you, and have went on to lead exemplary lives, despite what they did earlier on..
