Of course Adele is happy - she just swept the Grammys! Photo: Matt Sayles (AP).
Even if you follow music only casually, there’s no way you could have been surprised at Adele’s sweep. And a well-deserved one at that. Her “21″ album has resuscitated an industry on life support for years and with pure music, too.
So that part of the Grammys was kind of a given.
But what did you think about the rest? Were the Whitney Houston tributes sufficient? Surprised at the five wins for the Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl gets my vote for best speech of the night)? Psyched for Springsteen’s upcoming tour? Hope that Nicki Minaj decides to become a banker so we never have to see her on stage again?
Sound off below while I rewind my TiVo to re-watch that awesome show-closer with Paul McCartney, Springsteen and Grohl.

Good Grief Are you a reporter for TMZ? You sound like a low budge-drop out-hill billy reporter telling a bunch of lies. Even the coroner said it will take 6-8 weeks before the testing is back, so riddle me this since when did they start putting labs in trailer parks (meth labs are not counted).

YAWN @ 12:23 – The news reports I read said overdose based on the evidence at the scene, a combination of alcohol and prescription drugs found nearby and not enough water in her lungs to actually drown her. If this is proven wrong than I will retract my statement. I would not knowingly “spew garbage,” but thank you for denigrating the opinions and posts of others without cause. Nicely done.

YAWN and peter deter weter III – Classy bunch. I write something based on news reports that I read and now I’m the “low budge[sic]-drop out-hill billy[sic] reporter telling a bunch of lies.” You know that in order to tell a lie you have to know something to not be true before you say it. If a news report says something and I tell you what I read in the report, how does that make me a liar?
And peter deter…trying to sound superior to someone by calling them names doesn’t work. Just a little FYI for you…

the music industry is lacking overall star power. The hip hop/R &B world is in deep trouble when Chris Brown is it’s face. He’s back on top without so much as a whimper?? Seems there was more contempt for a certain ex QB in this town for beating dogs. I guess it’s ok as long as a man is beating a woman. Nicki sells cds that’s why she is where she is. hip hop and R & B is dead. I’d rather whip out the old cds and let em rip than listen to what record companies are forcing us to listen to.

I gave the Grammys an 8+ considering the tragedy of Whitney’s demise. LL Cool J did a very good job. Adele is an awesome performer also Bruno Mars; and Jennifer was AMAZING……but Niki Minja was just AWFULLLLL… She can’t sing and she is all Shock and no talent. We want entertainers not side shows.

That was the worst Grammy’s ever. And Ninki Minaj proved this. She thinks she is Madonna, Lady GaGa, or some other life form, and she isnt. She def. cant rap so I dont know how in the hell she got a spot light like that. Anyhoo. some of the older folks really were good. Chris Brown danced and had on tight pants- way to much.
As far as Whitney. Jennifer Hudson shouldhave been given another song. Dolly Parton actually could have sung the song. Jennnifer can sing her ^&* off but not that one.

And TMZ is not the source I read that on. The first source was linked from Druidge Report. The next on Yahoo News. Believe me, I’m not just making crap up.
And again, what lie have I told? Houston had become irrelevant prior to her death. She was rarely, if ever, mentioned in the media any more. If she had still been alive I’d be willing to bet she wouldn’t even have been mentioned during the broadcast. I feel sorry for her daughter, as I feel sorry for any child that loses a parent.

What has OBAMA got to do with the Grammys? GET OVER YOURSELF this is about the MUSIC INDUSTRY HELLO?
All you folks still holding that over Chris head I am sure You are all Perfect and have no skeltons in your closet. some of you got enough to fill a damn Grave yard. You didnt like his performance you should have changed the channel or got up and left the room. No one gives a rats ass because you dont like the man.
The Grammys as USUAL..a complete waist of electric. I watched it to the end and that was Only to see Diana Ross. Now I wish I had missed the entire show. Very VERY Boring. Highlight was Stevie wonder. The rest was entirely forgetable. I wont be watching Next Year.

The real Whitney Tribute will have to be done by BET…only BET can send her away with a fitting tribute…bring out Pattie, Christina Aguillara (sp), Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, and have a jam session fitting for woman with the voice of an angel. Hell let Bobby Brown wiggle a little too!

I don’t like the Chris Brown’s music and certainly don’t agree with what he did to Rihanna. He did something terribly wrong and has tried to correct his behavior. Let him live his life and hopefully he really did learn a lesson and won’t repeat such behavior.
As for the show, I loved Adele. Glad to see her back. Love Jennifer Hudson. Great tribute. Coldplay, especially the song after they sang with Rihanna, was terrible. Rihanna has been better too. Taylor Swift was terrible. Could have done without the 2 groups that did the Beach Boys tribute. And what’s with all the old timers? Did like Bruce though.

Adele.. Love her so much.. congrats… well deserved..
Chris Brown… nice job…
Rhianna.. surprisingly nice job
Tribute to Whitney.. with the time they had.. I think it was tasteful and adequate… They were all still dealing with the loss.. Jennifer did an awesome job as usual..
Nicki Minaj… You know if it were Gaga.. IDK if ppl would be coming down on her.. but I know I would have been.. You don’t play with God.. and Nicki went from being artistic (silly and crazy to be honest) to beyond off the wall disrespectful…. I can do without EVER seeing her perform again…
WTH was the beach boys doing performing… that was AWFUL.. and while I liked Paul M.’s first performanec.. I didn’t need to see second performance from him.. .

As an over-50 Grammy watcher, these are my comments:
1) Keep the over-50 artists who actually sing to a minimum. They HAD great voices, but it is hard to listen to them now. Bruce was pretty good, but the rest, including Sir Paul were marginal.
2) Lip syncing should be outlawed at the Grammys. If your dancing and light show causes you to have to lip sync, then I don’t want to see it.
3) Adele represented everything good about the Grammys. Nikki M represented everything that needs to be deleted from the next Grammy show. Ditto the deletion of Chris Brown also.
4) As a country fan, I know I should be happy for Taylor Swift, but I hate everything that the “MEAN” song represents. She is not the epitome of country music, and I wish the industry would stop recognizing her as such.

Show? What show? All I saw was a bunch of commercials. There would be 2 or 3 minutes of Grammys and then 10 freaking minutes of commercials. Was I the only one hoping that Chris Brown would completely bust his azz on that big pyramid thing he was dancing on? That would have made the show.

Complete waste of time- Grammys sucked. Samuel Jackson admitted in an interview with Ebony that he didn’t vote for Obama because of his “message” but because he is black. Why is that a surprise? Ninety-seven percent of black people voted for Obama. Forty three percent of white people voted for Obama also because he is black (half black). I depend on God – not Obama. Obama has no plan that will save this country.

Bruno Mars’ performance was awesome …. and I really enjoyed the Boss! The tribute to Whitney by Jennifer was lacking … if she was going to do it, she should have sung with all the emotions she could have mustered because when Whitney sang she gave it her all. I think another artist, more in tuned with their emotions, should have been selected. Sorry!

The Grammys were boring. I thought it was tailored to an older audience. Either that or music really suffered last year. From Chris and his skinny jeans, the weak tribute to Whitney, Nikki being demonized it all sucked big time! The more I study the music industry, the more blatant the Satan worshiping is. I’m glad that my days of preemptive programming have come to an end.

Could have done without Paul McCartney. Two songs? It was hard enough watching him struggle through one. Tired of Taylor Swifts poor me act. Chris Brown made a mistake, he paid for it. If Rhianna can let it go, you people should. Oblama. Go to Fox news to voice your complaints. You didn’t vote for him because he is Black. Enough said

Adele’s win was well-deserved. She really has talent, and glad she was able to get her voice “fixed”. Hope she is around a long time. Nicky Minaj obviously has sex appeal and sell records, but what’s up with the weird outfits? Overall, last night’s Grammys were the best in quite a few years. Sad overall tone, though, that was handled pretty well.

Tom, normally I would agree, I’m not a big awards show person either, but I’m glad I caught the Grammys last night. I think you would have been pleasantly surprised. The new artist guy even mentioned those “who will never get a Grammy but are awesome too.” It was a real tribute to real music I thought last night. Of course, there was still the politics of commercialization and a lot of folks probably got slighted because of it. One I can think of off the top of my head is Lupe Fiasco losing to Kanye and JayZ for best rap song. Clearly they get the “predictability” award, but they didn’t deserve it imo. Lupe’s record was much better, but he is not as mainstream, so it is what it is. For what it is and what it has become, I think last night was surprisingly different (I’m sure the fact that the two aforementioned predictables weren’t there added to the quality of the show. New faces, finally!)
