The Grammys are over – what did you think?

Of course Adele is happy - she just swept the Grammys! Photo: Matt Sayles (AP).

Of course Adele is happy - she just swept the Grammys! Photo: Matt Sayles (AP).

Even if you follow music only casually, there’s no way you could have been surprised at Adele’s sweep. And a well-deserved one at that. Her “21″ album has resuscitated an industry on life support for years and with pure music, too.

So that part of the Grammys was kind of a given.

But what did you think about the rest? Were the Whitney Houston tributes sufficient? Surprised at the five wins for the Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl gets my vote for best speech of the night)? Psyched for Springsteen’s upcoming tour? Hope that Nicki Minaj decides to become a banker so we never have to see her on stage again?

Sound off below while I rewind my TiVo to re-watch that awesome show-closer with Paul McCartney, Springsteen and Grohl.

TG, you assumed a lot from the little i wrote. i’m still trying to see where i wrote that i think “no one else in the history of anything ever has ever done anything wrong” or that “chris brown is the only one.” would you mind please copying and pasting where i said that in my original post, or perhaps get an education somewhere outside of the south where they might possibly teach you reading comprehension? kthxbai.

Nicki Minaj sucks !

Besides her awful performance the show was pretty good.

I really liked how LL Cool Jay opened the night up with a prayer for Miss Houston.

Mark in Johns Creek, no I don’t think Chris Brown was lip synching. I’ve seen him perform live (and I’m not even a fan, he just happened to be at the Essence Festival one year I went) and he has the goods. He’s a flawed human being, but I don’t think anyone can take his talent away from him. He really does does and sing at the same time. It takes a lot of practice but a lot of performers have learned how to do it.

Turnt_up!

What ever Bery Gordy did it worked, thats why motown is still being played around the world 50 years leter , and these artist today songs will not be played 20 years from now.
The beach boys and some the older artist need to stop performing and write songs for these young artist, who are lyrics challenged.

Bruce and Bruno were both good from the jump. Nicki Minaj is absolutely worthless trash. Everything else in between was pretty entertaining. Have to give it up for LL though. Thought he did a great job as host. Not too big not too small just right.

Why did they keep hyping Nikki M as something we’d all be talking about around the water cooler this morning? Whe was a hot mess! She can’t sing or rap and looked very strange to me. I guess we’re all talking about how much we wish could wash our eyeballs and ears to remove the stench she left. LOVED Bruno Mars, Adele, Alisha & Bonnie, Sir McCartney, Beach Boys et al, and LL Cool J was fantastic! Whitney tributes were a nice touch. Why no mention of Don Cornelius or Vesta during the slide show of those we in the past year?

Whitney Houston had been an irrelevant factor on the music scene for 15 years, but because she overdosed a day before the show, they had to rework things to sing her praises. The woman was no role model for children or teenagers. Between this overhyped episode of self-congratulations for the music industry and that overhyped zombie show that came on last night, I was really glad I had NetFlix. The saving grace for the Grammys was Adele. She is absolutely beautiful, regardless of what that fashion designer who called her fat says.

The show was a C – at best. They do need to show more awards. the Boss – sounded like Dylan from last year. Too old. Can’t sing anymore.Kinda like Lee Greenwood. He should only come around. Say like July $th evey year. Chris Brown – who cares. Since when is that R+B? Burno Mars- hes very under rated. Foo Fighters – sounded great. And it was live. Rihanna/ColdPlay was good.
Katy Perry was ok. Who was the stunt double? During the alien part? Beachboys – kinda sad. Congrats on 50 years together. But time to hang em up. Taylor Swift – always good. Glen Campbell – ok. Jennifer Hudson -great voice. But she should of did her own thing. Whitney – its sad when any one dies. But did anyone think she woulds have made it this long. She had not been able to sing for years. Crak is Wak man. Nikki Minaj – bad song – But great show! Adele – i guess she should win the awards.abecause she is all u hear on the radio. Over her. I hear Burger King needs a new mascot. Over all – one you will forget.

@dwayne – I disagree. Glen Campbell should have performed. He does has Alzeheimer’s, but it doesn’t have him JUST YET. So freaking what he missed a lyric or two. So what. Just like it was said last night, we all need to get back to enjoying the music and not whether a person gave a stellar performance. For him to even get on the stage, banter a little back and forth and still enjoy himself may even help his mind stay sharp a little longer. God forbid you ever forgot a lyric while singing in the car….

Nikki Minaj nees to placed in a rocket and shot off into space…what a hot mess that was.

Adele deserved all she received and I knew she would win all six categories. My voting ticket is proof!

Show was good, as a matter of fact, Chris Brown should accompany Nikki Minaj.

As a professional musician, for me the contrast between the actual talent on the stage was mind blowing. When you see Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys up there with a keyboard, a guitar, and two voices nailing it with no computers, pre-recorded vocal tracks…or The Civil Wars (I will go buy their cd now)….or Adele….or McCartney & crew…heck, even The Beach Boys, as old as they are…and (gulp) Taylor Swift (a really refreshing performance, didn’t take herself too seriously and actually played, which the crowd ate up)…THAT’S the true measure of talent. Bruno Mars? The boy blew me away, and I had never even heard of him before. And his band was killing it. PLEASE, if you are onstage representing the music industry, the very least that should be required is an actual performance. If I wanted to hear pre-recorded music I’ll just turn on my ipod, thank you. In other words, Chris Brown, Rhianna, Katy Perry, and that Minaj guano – just do real musicians and artists who don’t depend on technology more than talent a favor and stay out of the way next time. Dave Grohl nailed it – music ain’t about computers and auto-tune, it’s about talent that comes from the head and the heart.

Ha! yeah, Mr. Obvious – EDM (electronic dance music) guys can be hard to get your head around because sometimes you just see them DJ :) Hard to see “what he does” in four minutes, but at a minimum he made the Foo’s “Rope” danceable, and then went into his 2010 “Raise Your Weapon” which is his own production. He’s considered by many to be one of the best EDM producers in the business, and Skrillex (who won 3 grammys) is signed to his label mau5trap.

They really should have seperate Grammy Shows for cRap, Country, Rock, etc. They do not mesh well together. That Roman thing was a waste of time. Good news is I switched channels and watch some dog show where you can at least understand the performers.

Who / What was that mouse thing and what were those people on that acted if they enjoyed it?

At least there was the finale. Way to go McCartney, Springsteen, and Walsh.

I think this year’s Grammy Awards were quite boring. Nothing speculator happened on the show this year. I did find Taylor Swift refreshing; Nikki Minaj beyond a train wreck (WTF was that anyway); and Jennifer Hudson singing “I will Always Love You” was the highlight of the entire show. Adele did great too, but what else would you expect from her, it’s natural. Maybe next year they’ll get it together and make it more memorable.

Thought the show was pretty good. In the interview on 60 minutes, Adele talked about how she doesnt’ use gimmicks, dancers, etc and will never have the looks of a model. Her voice and musice are the show. Many, including Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Rihanna and others could learn form this. I love Adele’s sound and her refreshing attitude which let’s her talent shine above the noise. Thought the tribute to Whitney by Jennifer Hudson was just right. Loved Bruno Mars opener – lots of energy. Coldplay, McCartney were terrific.

Speaking of Gaga…….did anyone see her head (and huge walking cane) at the bottom of the screen bobbing up and down as she was LEAVING right after she lost in the best album category…..Hey, she missed Sir Paul & Co. which I do believe was a great performance……so much energy and they looked like they were having fun! For Taylor Swift fans, a lot of artists have done songs about bullying and it’s effects, but we can never be told enough about how awful that scene is! Spoken as a retired guidance counselor who was on the front lines of that sad mess too often.

Ms B,

The song that Taylor Swift sang, was written for haters like you. She can sing. So can Chris Brown but he’s a low-life scumbag and didn’t deserve to be there, period. I agree with the other person here who said that having him perform on the same show as Rihanna was disrespectful to her. For the show as a whole, I loved it, with the exception of the train wreck Nikki Minaj brought us. A total Gaga/Madonna copycat performance, but with far less talent shown.

Do you think Dave Grohls comments were directed at Nikki and Chris? Please that was some of the worst lip syncing of all time. If you dont have the control and stamina to sing and dance, or whatever Nikki was doing, at the same time, PICK ONE! Chris Brown and Nikki were both horrible. Thank the Lord for great producers who can make these idiots sound good.

All I have to say that if you’re an r&b and/or rap fan, you should feel angry. Outside of Jen Hudson (origionally not part of the show), there would be nothing to feel proud of. Matter of fact, every act under Young Money that’s making money (Nicki Minaj, Drake, Weezy, etc), is mostly a disgrace. If that’s all that radio stations and music companies are supporting, then the future of rap and r&b is doomed.

Great job Adele. Taylor, awesome revenge on Can’tyo (Kanye). Some nice performances. Why they let talentless Nicki Minaj perform I’ll never know. She can’t rap or sing. All she can do is look good. How is that Grammy qualifications? Also, way too much Chris Brown. Grammy’s are for music, not dancing. He does not have musical talent. Still can’t figure out why Rhianna is so popular either. Most Idol contestants have more talent.
