Cee Lo Green scraps Rihanna tour, including Chastain

If you were hoping to see Cee Lo Green on his summer tour with Rihanna, well, forget about it.

The Atlanta-based singer and current quarter of the coaching team on “The Voice” has dropped off the tour, including a July 12 date at Chastain Park Amphitheatre.

A press release cites “scheduling conflicts,” which prompts skepticism considering that the date has been on the books for months. Perhaps the additional exposure on NBC’s hit talent show is prompting Cee Lo to consider his own tour? That seems more likely than the other rumbling, that a much-publicized Twitter rant earlier this month – one tinged with anti-gay sentiments — regarding a negative review has caused the singer to bolt from the Rihanna dates.

Green’s spokesperson told The New York Times in a statement, “He always puts 100 percent into his work and with the requirements and time commitment to ‘The Voice,’ on top of heading back into the recording studio and an upcoming book, he feels that he wouldn’t give his fans the show that they deserve.”

Regardless, J. Cole will now open Ri-Ri-s tour. The 7:30 p.m. Chastain show is a non-table set-up; coolers and carry-ins will not be allowed.

Tickets are $65-$125 for reserved seating and $45 for general admission lawn seating. For more ticket information, visit www.livenation.com or call 1-800-745-3000.

CEE LO A NO SHOW! Who is this guy?? HE doesn’t sing…he squeeks. It always amazes me that an “artist” can have 1 “hit” song and people buy into them.

SEE YA CEE LO >>>>>>>>

Please learn the meaning of the word skeptical before you use it. It is an adjective meaning inclined to skepticism or having doubt. A person can be skeptical. Scheduling conflicts may inspire skepticism, and the writer might be skeptical of the explanation. The scheduling conflicts themselves, however, cannot “seem skeptical.” A professional writer should know better.

I was really turned off by all the cursing that BET had to beep out during his Patti Labell tribute last night. That was so disrespectful to Patti. She looked so embarrassed. Ceelo is too damn old to be pulling stunts like that. I have been a fan since Goodie Mob. I thought that 96’s Soul Food was the best rap cd to come out of the south. Cee lo had some serious thought provoking lyrics on that cd so I am still scratching my head about that childish stunt & disrespect to a legend.

@POeggy…thought it was just me who thought that. I like Cee-Lo..I really do. But with all the woman who could have possibly done her justice (Fantasia perhaps?) I thought his performance made a mockery of her. Patti..being the class act she is…took it in stride, but she surely deserved better.

I can honestly say that until his **ck You song came out, I’d never heard of him. However, I don’t listen to mainstream music. Don’t like it. If you offered me $50,000 to name just 1 of the billboard top 20 songs right now, I couldn’t do it. On the otherhand, I listen to bands and music that I can guarantee nearly no one on this board has ever heard of.

I didn’t hear the patti tribute, but I’m sure cee was just excited & mixing words, I’m not trying to justify his behavior, but rationalize it…the guy has a great heart & wouldn’t disrespect anyone…let alone a revered icon.

@KB, I just worked on skee-los new video, so he’s definitely making a comeback….MTV/BET are gonna air the video so im sure a tour will be coming…rather it will be regional or national…will be up to fan support….

I wouldn’t pay a dime to see ultra sleazy tramp stamped Rhi. Her current hit implies that she considers sexual abuse foreplay. In fact she seems to be begging to be beat in the video. It could be satire but is very inappropriate considering she & CB’s altercation. There’re always two stories. The truth as the media depicts it and then the absolute truth.

I, like many on this thread, have been a fan of Cee-Lo since his Goodie days, but his live performances can sometimes be “unpredictable.” (Some might substitute the word “flaky” or “45-minutes-late-and-only-performing-four-songs.”) The audience is taking a gamble and might either get a great performance or get mooned.

Cee-Lo Green is a true poet who has written some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve heard. For him to open for a corporate-made pop star is sickening. I’m glad he backed out for whatever reason. Maybe he just couldn’t stoop so low regardless of the paycheck. Those of you who say you’ve never heard of cee-lo are missing out – that is, if you truly love and appreciate talented music/songwriting.

The only time I would pay $125 to see Rhianna is if she was performing during intermission at a U2 concert. I would only hear during my potty break.

I may be a little late, but since when does Chastain have “non-table set-up” shows? One of the biggest draws for Chastain is the fact that you can create your own ambiance!

Who gives a flying **** that the tub-of-lard is not going to show up? The only reason I would go to see Rhianna is to SEE Rihanna. I could not tell you a single song title she sings for $1 million.

Al — Chastain occasionally has non-table shows, sometimes at the request of the artist or sometimes because it isn’t a good fit with the style of show. The Selena Gomez and Stevie Nicks date in August are also this way.
