New Kids On The Block & Backstreet Boys Sell Out Philips Arena Wednesday

New Kids On The Block and the Backstreet Boys (NKOTBSB) performed Wednesday night night at sold out Philips Arena. The Backstreet Boys were formed by producer Lou Pearlman in Orlando in 1993 and have sold over 130 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling boy band of all time. According to Billboard, they are the first group since Sade to have their first seven albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200. New Kids on the Block (also initialized as NKOTB)  were assembled in Boston in 1984 by producer Maurice Starr; they enjoyed success in the late 1980s and early 1990s and have sold 80 million records worldwide.

AJC photographer Robb Cohen covered the event with his camera. Check out the photo gallery. What did you think of  the concert? Who stole the show? What were your favorite songs from both bands?

Awesome concert last night!! NKOTB definitely worked it last night. Both bands were great!! @cornjolio They are selling out arenas and bringing people back after 22 years. They didnt do that giving crappy shows. The last time I checked Acting, producing , and real estate are still considered real jobs. Google works wonders…

They sucked in the early 90’s and I’m pretty sure they suck worse 18 years later.

My band opened up for these guys once when they were in South Georgia. They were a bunch of pathetic preeners. After soundcheck we left for a while, and when we came back to do the show, they were messing with our gear, acting like “they were in a band”. We told them to get the **** away from our stuff. But as any dad would do, I got my daughter backstage after the show to meet them, but they were so self-absorbed, and barely paid any notice to my beautiful daughter. She didn’t think so much of them after that. JD said it; they sucked then, and they probably suck now. I see on their song list, “Didn’t I Blow”. Yes, probably.

That show was so awesome last night. They are by far the best concert entertainers EVER! The arena was so full of hype and was so energetic. Way to go NKOTBSB!

Concert was awesome last night!!! I would definitely pay to see it again. Cornjolio, if they’re are so pathetic why are you wasting your time posting on here? The people that are against them so much are the ones that are jealous, and wish they were as talented and making the money!

Great show! They were great ENTERTAINERS! I wasn’t a huge fan going in, but I did like them in the ’80’s and ’90’s. After this concert, I definitely love them! They really put on a FUN show!

Entertaining show if they are your thing, but the best part was seeing 35-year-old women screaming like they were 12-year-olds.

cornjolio – making millions and selling out concerts all over the world, plus have tons of fans isn’t a real job? Hmmm, I guess we all don’t consider living in your mom’s basement and flipping burgers a real job like you then.

jd – you have a lot in common with them then, you suck as well. except, willing to bet you’re not 18 yet, so you haven’t sucked quite as long. congrats.

baden-baden : just because you work at the place where bands play, doesn’t mean you’re in a band. and just b/c their tour bus drove through south ga, doesn’t mean you opened for them.

Well, Moops, (whatever that means), they played at a college sports complex venue, and I didn’t work there. Trying to figure out your twisted logic…and yes, my band was paid to open up for them. I was there. Only the thirteen year olds liked them…or people like you with the mind of a thirteen-year-old.

Wasn’t really a fan, knew some of the songs, but my husband was given free VIP tickets, so went away, and must admit I did enjoy it, it was really good, they put on a great show, and the crowd loved it, and it was a total retro fest, keep going lads, as long as people want to listen, just keep going

I thought the concert was awesome but the sound was a little off–way too loud for the speakers. Like listening to an awesome song on a stereo with crapy speakers. I thought AJ of Backstreet gave it his all and was impressed with his passion. Jordan Knight and Joey McEntire were splendid with NKOTB. Donny rocked it with his hard, fit body! All in all Im glad I went!

Us BLOCKHEADS stick 2gether,&know that if ur talking smack about NKOTB,esp where ppl can read it,THAT U NEED 2 GET A LIFE…Iam a 34yr old mom of 3 & have been a fan 4 24yrs,NKOTB have always gave 100% at every show,& this show was just another 1 2 add 100% of them given 2 their fans! The show was amazing all the way around,I cant even put in words how great both bands were! They still have “it”,so why not give us the fans what we want? If they still got it! NKOTB FAN 4-LYFE!

It was epic! I have to admit…I wasn’t sure how this was going to be after many years of not really being in the public eye but this was by far the best show I have been to. Both groups gave it 150% and it was nonstop energy which kept the crowd going. As for the haters leaving the negative comments…I have been a fan of these groups for over half my life (I am now 26) and for some reason these guys feel the need to post negative things…If you are such a hater, then why even read these articles or go to these fan sites? I’m not going to the band sites that you like just to say I think they suck because I don’t like that kind of music…GROW UP! These men that put on the show last night worked their asses off! Just because you don’t have all these women lusting after you doesn’t mean they don’t deserve all the credit and glory of the hard work they have put in to get where they are today. Even if you don’t like pop music, you need to show them respect for doing what they do! Much love to NKOTBSB!

These guys put on a FANTASTIC show. If you plan on posting a negative comment on this site, please just keep it to yourself because they really aren’t appreciated. Imagine what the world could be like if we just cut out all the petty negativity…so much better! Think about it.
