Jennifer Hudson postpones July 2 show at Chastain

Singer Jennifer Hudson was scheduled to bring her I Remember Me Tour to Chastain Park this July 4th weekend, but Ticketmaster sent out an email late Wednesday night to ticketholders saying that the show is being postponed.

According to the email, which gave no reason for the postponement, a new date will be announced soon.

If you already have tickets, those tickets will be honored once the new date is scheduled. Otherwise, ticketholders can request a refund through Ticketmaster.

The tour, which was set to kick off in San Diego on June 19, will feature Hudson with special guest Jazmine Sullivan and Miguel.

Mars and Monáe: These ‘hooligans’ are ‘wondaful’

Bruno-Mars-Janelle-Monae-Hooligans-In-Wondaland-Tour-@-Filmore-East-Miami-Beach-Wed-May-11-2011Though cutely dubbed the “Hooligans in Wondaland” tour, the joint outing by whiz kids Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe could just as accurately be called the “Old Soul(s) Revue.”

For all of the grousing that so many of today’s young stars are more pre-occupied with image and flimsy, disposable radio fare than creating anything substantial, here are two examples (three, really, if you count opener Plan B) that defy those complaints.

For more than three hours last night, fans packing a sold out Fox Theatre received a lesson in authenticity.

It started with British singer/rapper Plan B (aka Ben Drew), who fronted a five-piece group of classy-looking, skinny-suit-clad musicians intent on overpowering his voice.

A huge star in his homeland, B is hardly another random Top 40 singer. With a voice coated with the gristle of a vintage soul man, he sauntered through the soulful pop of “The Recluse,” growled through the hip-hop dotted “Coming Up Easy” and seamlessly segued into the …

Kylie Minogue dazzles at Fox spectacle

 A gilded Pegasus.

Aerial stunts performed by shirtless men in teeny black shorts.

And this is the scaled-down version of Kylie Minogue’s tour.

On Friday night, the British/Australian megastar brought her $25 million “Aphrodite Live 2011” extravaganza to the Fox Theatre, and for two hours, the elfin Minogue and a cast of fantabulous dancers, singers and musicians reminded people that sometimes, it’s perfectly OK to indulge in mindless fun.

A Madonna-level star overseas with more than 60 million in worldwide album sales, Minogue has never quite burst through in America – save for a few months in 2001 with “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” – making this rare Stateside appearance all the more special.

The Fox was about 80 percent full, but this rabidly devoted crowd showered Minogue with the kind of roars reserved for royalty. The singer, who whipped through about eight Dolce & Gabbana fashions with Cher-like precision – …

Donald Glover+ Childish Gambino

The former “30 Rock” writer and current “Community” star returns home with his musical project and rapping alter ego Childish Gambino. Glover grew up in Stone Mountain and attended Rockbridge Elementary and the DeKalb School for the Arts. His latest album is “Culdesac,” released in July 2010 and available online as a free download. Glover claims that he got the name Childish Gambino from an online Wu-Tang Clan name generator, so maybe those online time-wasting apps actually serve a purpose.

Last month, Cee Lo Green headed to Culver City, Calif., to tape a two-hour installment of VH1’s “Storytellers.”

The resulting performance will air at 11 p.m. May 20 on VH1.

During the show, which featured Green performing 10 songs in front of a 150-member audience, the Atlanta-based soul man reunited onstage with Goodie Mob and announced that the group is getting back together for a future album.

Green also dedicated “She Knows” to his mother, who died when he was a teenager, and apparently got emotional during the performance.

“I feel like I’m living out her dream, her want for me,” he said from the stage.

Green didn’t neglect the song that will forever be identified with him, the euphemistically renamed “Forget You,” and kicked off the show with his Gnarls Barkley hit, “Crazy.”
