Steve Harvey and Kirk Franklin Opening Night of Comedy Gospel Tour at Philips Arena

Comedian, best-selling author and radio host Steve Harvey teams up with multiple Grammy Award-winning Gospel star Kirk Franklin for the inaugural 2011 Comedy Gospel tour opening night at Philips Arena on Saturday, March 19. Prescott Gilliam and Isaac Carree also entertained the enthusiastic crowd. The Steve Harvey and Kirk Franklin Comedy Gospel Tour was presented by WAMJ 107.5 FM/97.5 FM. In addition to his long-running radio show “The Steve Harvey Morning Show”, his new stint as host of “Family Feud” has proven to be very popular. Kirk Franklin is currently host and co-executive producer of the BET original series, “Sunday Best.”

AJC photographer Robb Cohen covered the show with his camera. Check out the 18-photo online gallery. What did you think  of the show? What did you think of the combination of comedy and gospel together?

I absolutely loved it. Kirk Franklin is a mini powerhouse and Steve Harvey’s semi–clean comedy had the audience rolling in the aisles!

I am very happy for kirk!
He has been my favorite gospel singer for some times.
He has been very creative so far!
His music always brings some type of vibe that Only him can carry
I am definitely looking for wards to his special comedy album very soon!

Loveded it!!!!! Everyone should have an “Uncle Steve” or an Uncle Jeeta in their family, if you don’t have one go out and get yourself one. I laughed so hard, I could not breathe. This was a great idea to combine comedy and gospel. Great show, and Atlanta you showed up to support. Kirk did the darn thing too and I can’t say this for most artists, but he has NOT made a bad CD yet in my humble opinion!!

Love Love Loved It! What an awesome performance by Kirk Franklin. He ministered through music and whatever the circumstance, just know, “You’re Never Alone”. May God continue to bless and cover Kirk and Steve for the remaining of their tour.

The show was great. Kirk did his thing and brought the Spirit and Steve was on point. Isaac Carree set the atomosphere and Prescott warmed up the crowd as well. Great idea to bring gospel and comedy together. God has a sense humor and likes to laugh and have a good time just like us.

I thought Kirk was awesome as usual, but I was a bit disappointed with Steve’s performance. Was I the only one who did not think Steve was as funny as he usually is. He had some funny moments, but overall I felt it was lacking.

I initially was wondering how the 2 artists would come together successfully. Well… I am no longer wondering. Loved, loved the show!! I do not get the opportunity to go out much since I have a little one at home. So when the opportunity presents itself , I have to think wisely on how to spend my time when I am away from him. This was definitely worth it!!!!

I know people personally who said they were not feeling Steve Harvey and got up and WALKED OUT. Here’s one person who said the same thing:

“30 day shred and Steve harvey fiasco”

I was pleasantly surprised with Kirk Franklin’s performance and totally dissappointed with Steve Harvey. Kirk was awesome, Steve said the same old things he always says which are no longer funny. And what 54 year old man tells jokes grabbing his croutch for 5 minutes on something that wasn’t funny. Steve stick with the radio show.

I love the anointing that is on Kirk. Whenever he performs, you’re guaranteed to be blessed and have REAL church, However, I don’t think Steve Harvey was the best choice to be with him. It’s hard to be in the spirit, then have it snatched away with secular, semi provocative jokes. Steve I’m still praying that you will surrender to the change the Lord wants to make in you. God is not through with any of us yet!!!!!
