Linkin Park Conquers Nearly Full Philips Arena Sunday Night

Linkin Park performed Sunday night at the nearly full Philips Arena on their “A Thousand Suns Tour”, with two British electronic bands, Pendulum and Does It Offend You, Yeah?, warming up the crowd. Alternative-rap-rock icons Linkin Park formed in 1996 in Augora Hills, California.  In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth greatest band of the music video era and the third best of the new millennium behind Oasis and Coldplay. The band’s most recent studio album, A Thousand Suns, was released on September 8, 2010. Linkin Park has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and has won two Grammy Awards.

AJC photographer Robb Cohen covered the show with his camera. Check out the 17-photo online gallery. What did you think of  the  show? How many times have you seen Linkin Park in concert?

The show would have been a sellout if the band themselves had not sold out.

Their new album is so terrible that I wanted to pour peroxide in my ears just to get the sound out.

The opening acts were horrible. Absolutely horrible. LP threw down last night though! The mash ups were sick! I’m not the biggest fan of their new album but its still quality. New stuff definitely sounds better live too. Bahb Ondeez, just because a band is expanding and tries new stuff doesn’t mean they are sell outs…what are they supposed to do songs like Crawling and In the end till the end of time?

First time seeing them in concert but have been a fan since they first came out! They ROCKED! So much energy throughout the entire show. I just wish I was sitting closer. I like their new CD, especially Iridescent, Wretches & Kings, Catalyst and the Messenger. Chester’s voice is golden!

Fourth concert for me and they rocked just as strong as each other time. They continue to stay strong even after all the criticism they received for the last album. LP fan for life. I really enjoyed “Does It Offend You” actually. I sat in the seats but while I was listening it gave me the urge to want to watch from the floor and go nuts. I think Mike Shinoda expressed exactly what the critics should understand in the song “When They Come For Me” and realize that they have to venture out and try new things or they will never evolve. Just look at the Beatles. The Beatles wouldn’t be as legendary if they released “Please Please Me” over and over. I personally prefer the older stuff of LP but understand and respect the new stuff and still liked it regardless.

Linkin Park was good. My first time to see them and it was on time. I traveled to ATL to see PENDULUM, who played before LP. Pendulum is the ultimate in rock-electronic. It’s D&B on steroids with their use of real instruments and amazing lyrical content with a mad vocalist AND hype-style MC.

Yo “DC” – anyone who is a fan of good music like Linkin Park should LOVE Pendulum. If Pendulum disappointed people it’s more than likely because they played for less than 30 minutes. They are so prolific that you can’t touch the surface what they have to offer in less than an hour.. CMON!! Before you dog out LP’s opening acts, check out more than 20 minutes worth of there music.

I was there too! I missed the opening acts (like I always do…) but LP rocked!
I have seen them now about 10 times live. The new album is great. Hater’s are going to hate regardless.
It is a different sound than their previous works, but once I got the album and listened to it it took me almost no time to pick out the songs I liked. I liked listening to the album much better than say versus listening to tracks from it on the radio, doesn’t really give you an appreciation for the new album.
Wretches & Kings and Waiting for the End are 2 of my favs off the new album, but its hard to say because there are several good songs on it. Of course their old stuff is what I love the most but they totally rock. 10 years later and they are still going strong. In fact they played so great I am thinking of going to one of the other shows…Road trip anyone? muahahaha! LP rules.
