Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks join for tour that will play Philips

08-04-24_Live_Nokia_ShotIn a bit of clever casting aimed directly at the deeper-pocketed boomer crowd, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks are joining voices for a 13-city tour that comes to Philips Arena at 7:30 p.m. March 24.

The duo appeared on “Ellen” to announce the outing, which starts March 20 in Fort Lauderdale, and said they plan to play their respective hits (that hopefully means none of Rod’s sleepy standards, though a few are sure to creep into the set list) and even, hinted Stewart, a couple of duets.

Tickets for the “Heart & Soul Tour” are on sale Jan. 21 (Amex card holders can get an earlier jump on Jan. 17) for $49.50-$149.50.

Stewart has stayed visible with his highly successful retreads of the American songbook, while Nicks will release a new album, “In: Your Dreams,” May 3, her first album of new material in more than a decade. First single, “Secret Love,” bows Feb. 3.

Additional tour dates and other details can be found at rodstewart.com and rockalittle.com. For tickets, head to www.ticketmaster.com.

This should make for an interesting pairing. Stevie Nicks and Don Henley did a short tour together in 2005 (they played @ the Gwinnett Arena) and it seemed like it was more of Stevie Nicks, with Don Henley as an opening act (even though it was billed as a co-headline show) – I wonder how this one will play out? I wonder who will play first? I would imagine it would be Rod Stewart first, then Stevie Nicks (since that is how it has worked out on all of her co-headline tours, including with Chris Isaak).

Tickets will probably go pretty fast, considering there are 2 big names on one ticket..I may still try to wait until late February to see what pops up…I got Stevie’s new single today, and it’s pretty good! Looking forward to 2011 already!

So this is what Rod comes up with instead of rejoining The Faces last summer?
Sad, very sad.

If anyone has seen Stevie Nicks on tour the last few years, you will be very disappointed. She can’t come close to singing like she used to, and butchered Stand Back on Ellen last week. It was hard to watch. Rod can still rock, but Stevie should stay home.

Rod does not open for anyone. Stevie will be the first out of the gate with some duo’s thrown in.
