IMG_7715

The Grammy winning, Atlanta-based Zac Brown Band fired up the faithful for a sold out New Year’s Eve concert Friday night at Philips Arena. Five opening acts, all of which are on Zac Brown’s Southern Ground record label,  showcased their talents. They included Nic Cowan, the Wood Brothers, Sonia Leigh, Casey Dreissen and Levi Lowrey.

AJC photographer Robb Cohen covered the show with his camera. Check out the 21-photo online gallery: Zac Brown Band rocks New Year’s Eve  . Also, this is the gallery from the ZBB concert last summer at Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta:   Zac Brown at Verizon Amphitheatre (5-8-10)

What did you think of  the show? How many times have you seen Zac Brown in concert? What did you think of the opening acts?

Great show. First time seeing ZBB. Took the whole family. Well worth the money. Opening acts were entertaining and Zac did a good job of working them in his show without taking away from the main attraction.

PHENOMENAL show last night!! The concert was over 4 hours long and Zac and the band really sounded great. I would have loved to have heard some other songs from back in the day like “Every Little Bit” and “Junkyard”, instead of so many songs with the Southern Ground artists but the Southern Ground artists were REALLY good too so don’t want to sound like I’m complaining. It was fan-freakin-tastic..

They were awesome as usual…..I’m an old time “Zac Head” , used to go see them at “Zac’s Place” at Lake Oconee in 2004-2005 when they were the house band, long before anybody outside of the middle GA area knew about them (Zac used to cook in the kitchen before they went onstage!). I’ve seen them many times. Witnessing this meteoric rise of a truly talented “Band” in mainstream country music has been incredible. Its like early ’70s southern/country rock has been revived by Zac and the boys. The concerts remind me of seeing The Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, Allman Brothers, etc. in the ’70s. Good stuff. All of the Southern Ground artists were great too, and I think they did a great job of working them into the show.

We loved the show! Anybody there remember the name of the female singer with curly hair who sang with the band? Loved her and would like to hear more!

@ Leah, I think her name is Aslyn, http://www.myspace.com/aslyn

Truely one of the best live shows I’ve ever attended. The new record is great. Enjoyed the Southern Ground artist.

The female singer was Sarah Dugas not Aslyn. She is the lead singer for the Duhks and her brother is the drummer in the Wood Brothers.

It was awesome. Zac and band rocked the house. I think this was the first time I have ever been to a concert and stood up almost the 4 hours they played. ( I had reserved seating). No intermission which I liked. He was great I would go back again and again. This is my new favorite band.
