Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani performs at sold out Center Stage Theatre Wednesday night, December 1, 2010. Joseph “Joe” Satriani, born on July 15, 1956 in Westbury, New York, is an Italian American multi-instrumentalist, known primarily for his work as an instrumental rock guitarist. Satriani has the second most Grammy Award nominations of any artist (15) without winning. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame with their guitar skills. These include Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde (Primus), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan (Third Eye Blind), Alex Skolnick (Testament), and David Bryson of Counting Crows. Inspired to play guitar at age fourteen soon after learning of the death of Jimi Hendrix, Satriani was recruited by Mick Jagger as lead guitarist for Jagger’s first solo tour in 1988.
