Elisabeth Withers, who was nominated for a Tony award for her role as Shug Avery in Broadway’s “The Color Purple,” will visit Atlanta this week for three appearances.
On Thursday, Withers will speak at a community event at The Hammond House Museum where she will talk about arts education. Withers’ Too Beautiful Program is being done in partnership with the Atlanta Public Schools Fine Art Department. The singer will also perform songs from her new album, “No Regrets.”
Withers founded The Too Beautiful Program to mentor and inspire young girls, and improve their self-awareness and self-esteem. Her talk on Thursday will focus on getting an education even if you’re considering a career in the arts.
On Saturday, Withers will hold a meet-and-greet at Mood Music to promote her new CD. She will also perform later Saturday at Pal’s Lounge.
Here are the details on her appearances:
Thursday: 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Hammond House, 503 Peeples St., Atlanta
Saturday: 3 to 5 p.m. at Mood Music, 1131 Euclid Ave., Atlanta
