Scorpions Rock Alpharetta Like a Hurricane

After 45 years of performing, German heavy metal kings Scorpions played what is promised to be their last tour Wednesday night at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. The band is known for their hits “No One Like You”, “Send Me an Angel, “Still Loving You”, and “Wind of Change”. Having sold over 100 million albums worldwide,  they were ranked #46 on VH1’s Greatest Artists of Hard Rock program. “Rock You Like a Hurricane” is also #18 on VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. On April 6, 2010, Scorpions were enshrined in Hollywood’s Rock Walk in a handprint ceremony.

If you were at the show, tell us what you saw and heard. How did it compare to other Scorpions shows?”

First off, great generic review. It’s obvious you were not there, for starters they did not do “Send me an Angel” which they have done every show this tour while dedicating it to the late, Ronnie James Dio. Not sure why, but Atlanta was shorted two or three songs…probably because the 70% full crowd was so bad. Nashville’s show this past Saturday was much better! Not only with a stage that ran out into the middle of the arena, but the Scorpions were giving 110% the entire show, as were the fans – unlike the Atlanta crowd. Never-the-less, the Scorpions once again put on an incredible show!!!

Hey JC, what songs did they leave off?

And like JC, the first thing that hit me was “They didn’t play Send me and Angel!”

Still thought the show was great and the Scorps sounded awesome. You could tell Stephen Pearcy of Ratt was just kinda going through the motions, but I really enjoyed both bands!

I will say this about Verizon…start tossing the drunks out! They run down to the front and you warn them more than twice, toss them!

Thanks for flagging that, guys. We’re checking with the photographer on that.

Why are you folks going to see washed up bands anyway? There is tons of young good talent out there. You don’t need to go see 60 and 70 year olds play.

Sorry guys…we could only be there for the first three songs. It looks like the band changed up their setlist from previous shows on this tour. Thanks for the correction, JC!

BD,

Age has nothing to do with it – talent does. They are hardly washed up with a brand new album (STING IN THE TAIL – check it out) in the charts. After 30 years, I have found that German metal is very durable!

Right on Gary. I too was there. Ratt was good. Maybe a little better than the last time I saw them 20+ years ago. Sober perhaps? Pearcy wasn’t hitting his highs though. The Scorpions were VERY good–very tight musically, energetic, and they were definately having a good time up there. What was up with the wierd drum solo? We love you Atlantaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

This was my first time seeing Scorpions live and they surely did not disappoint! However, the crowd was weak. The band put off a great energy and a lot of the crowd acted indifferent. I just wish we could have left them with a better memory of Atlanta instead of a 70-80% full crowd. I really enjoyed the drum solo by James Kottak. I just wish the crowd would have been a little more perceptive. Great show!

I saw a 90% full crowd from my angle? It seemed packed to me.

Overall, a great show. The Scorpions were exactly what I expected, musically tight and having fun. Klaus still sounds great singing. The guitar work of Mathias and Rudy was spot-on and very true to the original recordings. I thought the drum solo and background videos were a great way to show a retrospective of their albums. I’m sure Kottak had fun making the videos! Ratt was also just as expected, giving a run-through of their best known songs plus one or two new ones. Again, great guitar work by Warren and Carlos. Carlos (Quiet Riot) seems to be a good fit for the band. Pearcy’s vocals left a bit to be desired. Bobby’s drumming was great. As a last comment, I wished I’d bought stock in drumsticks! Klaus went through a pile.

Robb Cohen are you a complete moron? Only there for the first 3 songs? Busy doing what? You give out this stupid review and expect people to cheer you for your brilliant half ass review?

The show as ok. Scorpions cut it a bit short. Didn’t play some of the hits. The lawn was empty but the rest seemed pretty full. The crowd was kind of on low. But again having a concert on a Tuesday night did NOT help.

Next time Robb stay for the show and not screw off and give people the impression you were there for the whole thing….idiot!

God,quit hating on Robb Cohen! What is your problem? Robb is a devoted concert-goer and professional, and I always enjoy checking out his pics. Anybody that wants to rip him for a few setlist mistakes is a complete loser.

Mistake? What are you one of his bum buddies? The guy(aka douchebag) gives this horrible half ass review and tries to pass it off as a complete! The guy is there for the first 3 songs and runs off to go watch his Lady Gaga marathon. Stephen an idiot! Robb Cohen is a jackass and could jump off a building thus making the world a better place!

“a devoted concert goer”

So seeing the first 3 songs makes you a goer?

“professional”.

Seeing the first 3 songs and then making it sound like you were there for the whole thing makes you a bloody amateur idiot!

“always enjoy checking out his pics”

Which ones? The naked ones of you or your mother?

“loser”

No trying to pass off half ass work and people who accept this are the losers!

Stephen, do the world a favor and go kill yourself. We need less dumb people on this planet.

well my take….it was my 2nd Scorpions show this tour, and I drove 5 hours to Atlanta to see this one (after Pittsburgh).

the performance was top notch, and the big hits WERE played….someone above mentioned some being left out, that can be argued, but the BIG ones and new ones were there……Klaus’ voice sounded great, and the band puts off an energy that very few can nowadays, including what little talent there is in the music world today by anyone under 35…..the above comment evidently came from a Lady Gaga lover….and not a true rock fan !!

thought the crowd was pretty raucus, everywhere I looked from my front row center perspective looked to be into the show !!

and loved the venue…..a little smaller than the Charlotte NC venue near where I live, but great none the less…

re: the above photog criticism……Photographers are only given a limit of the 1st 3 songs to be able to photograph….I was on the photo staff for Pittsburgh, and we were removed after the 3 songs, but I too was on front row there as well, and kept clicking! LOL
true, it seems the analysis was semi-generic, but the 1st commenter more accurately stated the obvious===the Scorps still rock after 40 years, and some younger bands and artists should take note…

most of the time he can only stay for 3 songs and then the promoter tosses him out…esp if its a sold out show…but sometimes he is allowed to stay and given a seat as long as the camera is locked up…seriously folks this is his JOB. As a former concert promoter staffer, going to shows after a while is just more of a pain than enjoyment…even if you like the band….

Scorpions as always sounded like a CD Amazing !. Im not sure why maybe is because the of the venue location in the suburbs, but too many childrens in a rock concert? i feel i was in a hanna montana concert!
Even Ratt singer steve the singer noticed that and made a coment on that at the end of their first song ! But music was just Awesome !!!
