Adult Swim Presents Dethklok & Mastodon At Sold Out Tabernacle

Thursday night, the Tabernacle hosted Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse featuring Dethklok, Mastodon, Converge and High on Fire. And while we weren’t there to cover it, Robb Cohen was handy with his camera. See his complete photo gallery here. In the meantime, tell us about what you saw. How did it compare to other Mastodon shows?

This was a great show. The drummer for Converge was awesome. Mastodon was fun. And I was so excited to see Dethklok. They were energetic and fun and just awesome. Most of the songs were separated by 2 minute versions of the show (Metalocalypse). Nathan, Murderface, Pickles, Skwisgaar, and Toki served as narrators of a sort. There was even an appearance made by Facebones.

I’ve never really been exposed to metal as a genre, but I am stoked to add this guitar-solo ridden, insanely fast-paced style of music to my already eclectic playlists.

Boogers for the children fund, you’re just too big of a puss to show up to a metal show. Youv’e got it wrong its not metal heads that crave attention its the stupid emo and punk kids. All the bands played amazingly, with the exception of Converge. They had a great drummer, and that is all I can say about them. Their front man was more into his mic tricks and throwing the mic to the crowd than he was about actually singing, and when he actually did it sounded like a dog getting curb stopped. Mastodon tore it up, played all the way through Crack the Skye and then hit some of their older stuff off Blood Mountain, Remission, etc. After Mastodon finish Dethklok took the took the stage and I was blown away how great they were live. I had seen the show but was a little skeptical of how the real thing would be. The music was great and they synced their playing perfectly with the animations that ran throughout their set.

After the show ended a few guys that had backstage passes ended up giving them to me and a friend and we got to go and hang with some of the bands, and got the privilege to meet Dehtklok drummer Gene Hoglan.

All in all it was an amazing show, and getting to go backstage absolutely made it my favorite concert by far!!!
