Controversial gossip blogger Perez Hilton hosted the opening night of  The Perez Hilton Presents Tour 2009!  Thursday night at  the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta’s Little Five Points. The showcase had a modest turnout despite featuring Perez Hilton and buzz bands Ladyhawke (New Zealand), Ida Maria (Norway) and New York’s Semi Precious Weapons.

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira, already has plenty to do running his gossip site, PerezHilton.com, and a fashion site, CocoPerez.com. His hard work is all part of a plan, he said, to expand his brand and become “the gay, Latino Oprah.” Pursuing such lofty goals has also resulted in a few high-profile controversies, including an alleged assault involving the Black Eyed Peas, numerous “outings” of purported gay entertainers,  and the media firestorm that surrounded his gay marriage question to former Miss California, Carrie Prejean. On June 25, 2009, shortly after Michael Jackson had gone into cardiac arrest, Hilton posted an article about the star’s illness, claiming it was a publicity stunt.
