The Delta Classic Chastain Concert Series hosted a packed crowd Saturday night, August 29, as 90’s R&B hitmakers En Vogue, Tony!Toni!Tone! and Silk entertained under beautiful skies. Assembled in Oakland, California in July 1989, the original members of Grammy-nominated En Vogue are Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis. The inspiration behind the group came when the production duo of Foster and Mc Elroy sought to put together a modern-day girl group in the tradition of past girl groups of the 1950s and 1960s. The group’s original name was “For You.” They shifted to “Vogue”, but ultimately settled on En Vogue, upon learning that another group had already claimed that name.

To date, En Vogue has sold over twenty million albums and singles worldwide. They have won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in MTV history, a total of seven, along with three Soul Train Awards, two American Music Awards and seven Grammy nominations. According to Billboard Magazine they were the eighteenth most successful act of the 1990s, and one of the most popular and successful female groups of all time. The band has spent over 2800 weeks on various Billboard charts.

Silk gave a shout out to Keith Sweat, thanking him for giving their career a jump start. Tony!Toni!Tone! acknowledged Michael Jackson’s birthday and paid tribute to his music and influence. The final two ASO Classic Chastain shows are Pet Shop Boys (September 12) and Loggins & Messina (September 25).

En Vogue certainly was one of the most successful acts of the 90’s, TLC had their day in 2000. Id say all three groups are amazing…. I dont however see En Vogue making a come back

Does anyone remember the name of the vocalist with Tony Toni Tone that was dressed in the white? I believe he replaced Raphael Saadiq.

The concert was great and every group sounded like the CD! Awesome!

I was fortunate enough to be on the front row of this concert and let me tell you all the groups did a fantastic job. I miss there music style sooo much and they all looked great. I was able to dance with the guitar player when he came down and receive a kiss from the lead singer of silk. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

I have to say that I really enjoyed the show. All of the groups were phenomenal. I am a SIlk and Tony Toni Tone fan. I just love their music. Although its been a long time since we have heard from them, they have not missed a beat. Envouge on the other hand, their sound was good but I like the other person who commented, I don’t think that they will make a come back. Silk or Tony Toni Tone should have been the headliner, since the show started at 8pm and people really did not get settled until 9:30 because of parking.
