Two of Atlanta’s favorite homegrown bands play a free concert in Centennial Park Sept. 5 when ESPN’s College GameDay comes to Atlanta for the Alabama vs. Virginia Tech game at the Georgia Dome. Both bands have new albums. Drivin n Cryin’s first record in 12 years,”Whatever Happened to the Great American Bubble Factory” (Vintage Earth Music), comes out Sept. 29. Collective Soul’s eponymous CD on Road Runner comes out Aug. 25. Show times finally confirmed: Gates open at 3 p.m. Drivin N Cryin starts at 3:45 p.m. and Collective Soul goes on at 5 p.m.
Drivin n Cryin also will give an in-store performance at Criminal Records in Little Five Points, SEPT. 29, day of their album release. 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Check your pictures…I’m quite certain the first one isn’t Collective Soul and I’m fairly certain the second one isn’t Kevn Kinney either.

doh! thanks for pointing out collective soul photo gaffe. I’ve replaced it. That WAS a pic of Kevn Kinney, but I replaced it with a more recent one, taken by the late great photographer Frank Mullen.

“Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid” was one of the first CDs I ever got. Sixth grade, I think. Traded it to my cousin for a copy of Green Day’s “Kerplunk.”
Not a fantastic decision, though “Kerplunk” is pretty good.

Yeah, once I looked at that Kevn Kinney picture, I realized it was indeed him…just him from my middle school days, as opposed to my college days (which is what the one you have up now looks like).

That’s def. Collective Soul, with Will Turpin in the foreground. And that’s def. Kevn Kinney, as the pic is used in quite a few promo pics. You might want to check *your* research

The criminal records appearance is September 29th (the same day the CD comes out), not the 5th (the same day of the other concerts).
