DEF LEPPARD, POISON & CHEAP TRICK @ Aaron’s Amphitheatre Saturday

Three icons of 80’s rock, Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap Trick, blew away a sold out crowd Saturday night on the Southside at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood. Def Leppard’s line-up remains intact from their heydey in the early 80’s, consisting of Joe Elliott (lead vocals, additional guitars, keyboards), Phil Collen(guitars, backing vocals), Vivian Campbell (guitars, backing vocals), Rick Savage (bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Rick Allen (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

Ranked #31 on VH1’s “Greatest Artists of Hard Rock”, Def Leppard is one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies each in the US. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Van Halen.

Great concert! I’ve waited 25 years to see Def Leppard live, and they didn’t disappoint… they put on a quality, highly-technical show with all the favorites. Would have loved to hear a classic like Too Late For Love or maybe a great obscure song like Action Not Words, Run Riot, Don’t Shoot Shotgun, I Wanna Touch You or Tear It Down… but they still did a great set, with most of the Hysteria album.

Poison held true to their fan favorites like Ride The Wind, Fallen Angel and Every Rose Has It’s Thorn… although a little of their passion is missing from previous years. And it was awesome to finally see Cheap Trick… every rock ‘n roll fan should see I Want You To Want Me, Dream Police and Surrender live at least ONE time in their lives!

Overall, it was a great concert… good lineup, affordable, and they didn’t try to force any new material on fans (they stuck with the classic stuff). Although, it would be awesome of Def Leppard and Poison could go back into the studio with a great producer like Mutt Lange and crank out a GREAT, kick-butt studio album loaded with the pop-metal singles we all loved in the 80s. The last releases from them haven’t been up to past standards. C’mon guys, really work at it and put together one more album loaded with catchy hooks, tight riffs and strong choruses… we know you can do it!

And Def Leppard, PLEASE tour more in the U.S.! I don’t want to wait another 20 years to see you again!

Jeff, Def Leppard tours the US all the time. They were in Atlanta last year, and went to Philips Arena in 2006 with Journey. They played Music Midtown in 2003 & 2005 so you may want to pay attention. I’ve seen Def Leppard seven times so I was at the Paul McCartney show Saturday. Otherwise, I would have been at Lakewood.

Great show. I’ve seen all 3 bands previously, and was NOT disappointed with any of their performances Saturday night!!

Long live Rock ‘n Roll!

It was such a great show. I have seen all 3 before but Saturday, they were in PRIME shape. I’m not a giant Cheap Trick fan, but my husband is and he was loving their set. Poison was so much fun. We were laughing that 5 years ago they couldn’t give away the tickets for that show, but as with everything, musical tastes change (and some exposure on a trashy MTV show doesn’t hurt either). They looked like they were having a good old time. Def Leppard was amazing. Those guys are true artists. And seriously, there are not a whole lot of 51 year olds that have abs quite like Phil Collen-SERIOUSLY! I saw a lot of teens at the show and am curious how many came because DL did ‘Crossroads’ with Taylor Swift (hmmm, another MTV/VH1/CMT show, think I am seeing a trend….)

Regardless, what a great night! And thanks to my friend A for such awesome seats!

I am a huge huge Def Leppard, Poison & Cheap Trick fan so I was so thrilled they were touring together! I saw the Lepp’s when they came to Lakewood in 2007 & loved it so much I wanted to see them again!! I was so impressed that everything was on time & ran like clockwork! The bands were all fabulous & so appreciative of the crowd…It’s true, Joe E can’t hit the higher notes anymore but who cares!! They sounded just spectacular, I just wish Def Lepp had sang Nine Lives, which I read they did at some other shows, I really like that song! I will go see them anytime they are in Atlanta! Rock on!!

Yes, I’m a loser because I know when Def Leppard comes to town. Yes, I’m a loser because I saw somebody else that night. I must be a loser because I’ve seen Def Leppard multiple times in Atlanta since 2000, and this other guy wants to know why they haven’t toured in 25 years. Of course, you have the “Hysteria” CD in Japanese too don’t you. And it’s Marc, not Mark you idiot.

My best friend from high school and I drove like 300 miles for this concert and it was sooo worth it. Def Leppard rocked the house. We made a weekend trip of it and toured Atlanta while we were there. It was a great time and everyone we met was really nice. We will definately be back when Def Leppard comes to town. Atlanta Rocks!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY BEST FRIEND!!!

AWESOME concert! The only thing I wish was different was that we could have taken pics. I would have loved to been able to look back at them. My best friend and I will be back (and this time we will get those pics). I agree on the abs thing. Phil couldn’t have looked any better. Thank you Lori for the best girls weekend out without husbands and kids and also for the birthday wish.
