Jill Scott and Lil John Have A Son

R&B singer Jill Scott’s publicist has confirmed to us that yes, she and Atlanta percussionist Lil John Roberts are now the proud parents of a son.

(And Lil John just about says as much on his MySpace page; by Children his profile says “Proud parent”)

No official word on a name, weight and height, or even whether Scott had it in a hospital in her future husband’s current hometown. (But sites have been reporting his name is Jett Hamilton Roberts, 7 lbs., 8 oz., born April 20 at 4:20, even).

Happen to have any other details? Been watching Scott in HBO’s “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency,” and if so, your thoughts?

Who cares? The kid will grow up to be a murdering thug anyway. Also, what is a “Lil John?” And the kids name is “Jett?” Unreal.

I always thought that the child of an unmarried mother had to take the mother’s name. Has the law changed?

I guess you can say the same thing about that kid that Bristol Palin had out of wedlock. I sure that kid will grow up to be a murdering, snuff dipping, thug up in Alaska.

Now that my comment sounds as dumb as the two comments above me, I am glad that these two wonderful talents have brought another wonderful child into this world.

Shoule I Ask, if you spent 2 minutes goggling these two you would have found out that they announced their engagement June 20,2008 during one of Jill’s concerts.

Congratulations! Yes, I have been watching the No. 1 Ladies Detective and I have to say that it is the BEST show on television in a very long time. Jill Scott is superb! It has made me take another look at Africa and I’ve totally fallen in love with Botswanna. I plan to take a trip there very soon. The people are warm and friendly. A friend of mine at work talk about how this show really portrays the country in a positive light, very much unlike most of the media coverage we see day-to-day. I have watched each episode over and over again and can’t wait for a new show each Sunday evening. Me and my friend at work great each other with the friendly greeting from the show and discuss each episode in detail. Thank you Ms. Scott for your wonderful performance. I have also have fallen in love with Ms. Rose and the hairdresser.

Should I Ask,
Are you judging and why is that a concern for you? Are you going to supply the care for the child; pay for child care; pay for college; etc. Society is so quick to throw stones at others when stones should be thrown at the individual throwing the stone. I’m sure you have skeletons in your closet.
Grow up and get a life.
Congratulations Jill Scott! I’m sure the baby is as beautiful as you!

This message is for Mel and Anonymous and who else has a crazy “ASS” comment about black women having babies out of wedlock what rock did you just crawl from under a least she is grown black women, rich black women who can hold her owe and won’t need her mama to take care of her baby like Bristol and all the other white girls who have babies out ot wedlock and need there mama’s or welfare to take of them. There are more white thugs than black they just put are black men in the news more than white. congrats to Jill and Lil John.

LOL @ whomever said “black women should stop having babies outside the confines of marriage”. Last I looked, white women, latinas and God forbid, even some Asian women are doing the same! So let’s stop this pitiful generalizing by race (that’s sooo old, but hey, this is the south) and just say use the term ‘women’ without the race adjective as a precursor.

First, Let me say Congrats to the new parents. It’s a true blessing.

Now, this is for Mel, Should I ask & Itsme.
Mel..We all realize that you’re trailer trash and don’t have any training but, you need to know what you’re speaking about before you make such a stupid statement. Jill Scott is very successful in her career as well as her partner. Now, whether they choose to get married is solely up to them. Worry about your out of control children. (Meth user, child molester etc..) Now, that’s putting one race in a catagory…

Should I ask…What difference does it make if their married or not..Can you say Brad & Angelina, Goldie & Kurt, and not to mention a number of others. STOP being so damn judgmental. You don’t have the right. As long as they are taking care of their business who are you to judge….

Itsme… I don’t know how old you are but, you can give your child any name you want.

After stating my opinons to you all.. How about you not cast stones when you live in a glass house yourself. If you can say you’ve never done anything that you can be judged for (god bless) but, if you can’t take a look in the mirror and focus on yourself.

Here-Here-I say!!! I’m very happy for Lil John and Jill because they make a beautiful BLACK couple and there is plenty of promise in their family. Now, for you racist morons who think children out of wedlock is limited to Black people, at least we don’t date our relatives and produce mentally challenged offspring. There, I said it.

I guess all of those babies of unwedded, white hollywood celeberties will be a mudering thug as well? For Example, Brad and Angelina’s babies, Nicole Richie’s baby, the list could go on and on and on! To make a judgement about a child because of who their parents are is absurd! Mel, you sound so ignorant! I bet that you’ve probably bopped your head to some of Lil John’s music and didn’t even know it! So since you know nothing about him and Jill and made that stupid assumption,we are making this assumption about you: never expect a genius comment from a stupid person! I would call you crazy, but there is a difference betweeen a crazy person and a stupid person. Crazy people can take a pill to bring them back to reality; however, unfortunately, there are no pills for stupid people to take!

Ok, having a baby out of wedlock is more of the norm then not. It comes down to being responsible and taking measures for it not to happen. Not all children born out of wedlock will be thugs, drug dealers, or anything else negative. Every child has the chance to be wonderful things in life, its all about the parents and how they are raised.

On another note, there are many children of divorce out there, basically the same thing as having a child out of wedlock really. Child support and custody is the same whether they are married or not. Is that fact predicting they will be evil low down criminals? No.

I don’t have children and that’s on purpose, but if I did you best believe that they would be raised to be self respecting, goal oriented adults.

So, those of you that made those ignorant comments, you need to call your parents and tell them they failed that you are just as stupid as trying to hold a lit candle in the rain.

People need to stop with the immediate race baiting. Two people in love had a baby, nothing wrong with that.
V103 morning two weeks ago had a whole segment with babies out of wedlock. Breakdown goes like this – 23% white – 48% Latino and 73% black. 73%!!!!! Thats not exaggerated, thats a fact. So you can bring up Bristol, Angelina, etc. but in the white community that is not the common rule. Me personally, who cares? But i am curious as to why that is???

Getting back to the orginal question, the show is really good and Jill displays considerable acting talent. I love her accent, she has it down pat!

As for the couple issue, I just hope she learned her lesson from her first marriage and has chosen a man more suitable to her needs. At any rate, congrats to the two of them and much love goes out to Jett who is no doubt a future Q dog:-)!

do not entertain or be lured by the people that are race baiting on this blog…they do it to get the reactions you give.

We all know that it is ignorance and stupidity that drives them

Just the fax – it is a true statement – i wonder why myself – yet, i also look at it as a cycle in some families that can’t be broken – and teenage pregnancies probably are a big factor.

However, i think they brought it up to prove a point – that it is happening in every culture despite the numbers.

Now…Mr. Thrasher that is funny!! Lil’ John Roberts is an extremely talented drummer and very friendly person (i had the pleasure of meeting him). He played for Janet Jackson through a few of her tours and for christina ag. just to name a few and he is also the talented drummer of his future wife the equally talented Ms Jill Scott.

Congratulations Jill John and Jett!!

Actually, the mother does not have to give her baby her last name, she does not even have to give the baby the father’s last name. She can make a name up if she wishes to do so. But most mother’s want their children to know their heritage and married or not will give the children the father’s last name. It is my opinion that regardless of the situation between the parents, the children should bear the father’s last name, even if the woman hates the man when she gives birth.

For those of you getting this confused..this is not Lil’ John the Rapper….this is lil’ John the drummer…He’s is one of those behind the scene guys in the music business that gets paid boocooh of money but you wouldn’t know it unless you’ve been in the industry yourself.. He’s an endorsed drummer with several of the major Drum manufacturers(i.e Zildjian,Remo)…he’s played for the likes of Janet Jackson, his soon to be wife Jill Scott, En Vogue,Jessica Simpson,Mary J. Bliege…etc etc…so he’s not just a band member you see on stage when you go to the live concerts. He’s also a music producer…He’s just not one of those guys in the lime light like Lil’ John the rapper is….

It is so sad that people continue to label all Black people. I do not understand how people with a history of torture, forcing people to work free (slavery), incest, molestation, serial killers, thieves, bank robbers, meth heads and the most disgusting sexual appetites in the whole world are always judging other people. This is a racist country and it is time for people of color to stand together and fight against always having to defend ourselves. This world has more people of color; we need to start acting like it. Further, whether a person is black, white, yellow, or green, God’s commandments still stand; sex before marriage is a SIN. That is not judgment; it’s scriptural. By the way my parents never married and I am a business owner not a thug.

If people want to have kids out of wedlock, I can’t stop them, but at least be able and willing to take care of them, take the time to raise them well and be prepared to make the sacrifices needed to accomplish those things. I truly do not think that Jill Scott and Lil Jon will not have a problem with the resources needed to provide for their child.
Money doesn’t raise a child-lack of money doesn’t raise a child. Quality time, attention and a genuine interest in them most definitely trumps all of that.
Ideally, having a two parent home is whats best, but the may already have that, not just the marriage license to make everyone else happy….So everyone can kiss Jills a$$.

Regardless of the parents being married or not, EVERY child is a gift from God and I can only imagine Jill’s joy of having her own since she was married 5 years before & told she couldn’t conceive. Having God Bless you like that is wonderful. From a Black woman’s point of view on the marriage aspect, there are many woman of all races that aren’t married & having children, BUT Black women hope they complete the commitment. On the UP side, it is refreshing to see a woman who has all her own (she’s beautiful, rich, famous, and can sing her a** off) & doesn’t need her intended to help her take care of their child should they decide not to get married or stay together, although I hope they do get married. I was saddened when she & Lyzell got divorced since he was her everything, but couldn’t take her fame (they were together before she got famous & she wrote all those wonderful songs about how he made her feel), and she says he’s still a good man (nice to hear instead of trashing him). I think they make a great couple & Congrats to them and their little one!

Congrats to Lil John and Jill!!!!

Also, to answer “itsme” question about carrying the father’s last name: A baby can carry the father’s last name as long as the father admits paternity by signing the birth certificate.

I think it should be noted that Lil John is not the Lil John of Atlanta Crunk fame. A lot of people have been telling others that Lil John of Crunk and Jill Scott have a baby

Dana,

On June 20, 2008, at a concert in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Scott shared a long on-stage kiss with her drummer, Lil’ John Roberts; the couple then told the audience that they were engaged.

Now if the other munchkin named wayne can clean up his act the world will be better. Damn rappers.

Lord I pray that you help us rid the world of these rappers.

Ummm, I do not like to get baited either but I cannot stand to see “facts” so grossly misstated.

“Some People Are Funny” at 4:55pm yesterday, why do you have to make such an ugly statement especially on a topic that is sensitive to any woman with feelings regardless of race..and that is abortion. Further, please educate yourself on a topic before you make yourself sound the way you did. The NAACP’s statement on Wall Street Journal about abortions and races if you really must know includes this excerpt:

“What Dr. King is alluding to is that abortion disproportionately affects African-Americans. A fact sheet from the Guttmacher Institute puts it this way: “Black women are 4.8 times as likely as non-Hispanic white women to have an abortion.” The Centers for Disease Control further report what this means: While about one out of every five white pregnancies ends in abortion, it’s nearly one out of every two for African-Americans.”

Again, why even bring stuff like this up…but since you did I assumed you would appreciate some education on it so as not to make that mistake again.

Oh and “Brenda” you are using the race card as badly as anyone without color. You pick the negative things about America’s society to state but yet I assume you are an American and that is the color of our skin in this country…American. Slavery was bad, yes, and it happened but it happened A LONG time ago way before the Holocaust even and at some point people have to move beyond that and start a new day.

If you want to talk about the ugly things that people do, as you did in your statement, flip the coin and look at the other side. Look at the genocide, rape, mutilation, etc. that goes on in countries TODAY with people of color and why don’t you ask them to “scripturaly” stand together before you try to bring back issues from 150 years ago in this country…you aren’t helping to move past.

I’m actually a real life black man and black women and men both need to stop having babies if their not married! Just because everybody else is, doesn’t make it right. Plus I used to run around and wild out and I had enough sense to not have a baby and I’m a fool!

I didn’t think that a birth certificate meant squat legally. He’s still the puntitive father untill he goes to court and legally says “that’s mine before God and the State.”

Wow – there is soooooo much hatred in the world! Seal is married to the “wonderful” white Heidi – she married the black man while pregnant with another one of her white kids from another man – no one talka about how SCANT that is!!! PEOPLE come on!!!! GET a grip and focus on things that are positive. The same people that are speaking of the black race are the same people that are dating black men or…. your girls are dating black boys…. hmmmmm! Come out the closet and live life to the fullest!!!!! Focus on self and not others – stop juding other people and races and you will be a better person!!!!!! Or just MOVE to another planet!!!

By the way – Jill – congrats to a new baby and we LOVE the HBO show!!!!

Congratulations to Jill Scott, Lil Jon, and their new born son. May they continue to be blessed always.

There really are ignorant people on this site. I was always taught if you had nothing nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Some of these people on here should take heed.

Congratulations Jill for your baby, I LOVE the # 1 DLA!! I can’t wait to view the next episode. It reminds me of my childwood backhome, it feels like a fresh breeze. Keep on the good work Jill to show a real side of Africa that people unfortunately don’t get to see on tv.

People are such hatters. Congratulations Jill and Lil John and where is it factual that a child conceived in wedlock is better than one conceived out of wedlock. Most of them conceived in wedlock are more screwed up than those that weren’t.
