I do like the Hawks. I have always been a fan. Having said that its time for a dose of reality. The Hawks like any serious contending NBA team cant win with out a center. It is the piece that they miss. Pachula is a liability clearly! How many turnovers does he have in the low post? Alot. Why cant he finish in the post? His hand are made of rocks. Hartford is an excellent powerforward...but never a center.
Every time the Hawks face a team that has a legitimate center guess who wins? The team with the center...This is a no brainer... a DUH?!?!! of major porportions.
Camby anyone?
How demoralizing is it to know that your owners/GM wont do what it takes to win? Very demoralizing to both players and fans!
With these facts clearly evidenced the Hawks although they are my beloved and a good team, will never be champions...Why? because the owners and General Managements arent Champions.
The only way we as fans will see a basketball champion is to watch one in another city......

Looks like the Raptors and Heat have finally done that deal.
http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/david_aldridge/02/13/heatraptorstrade.20090213/index.html

The Heat get a big man, the Raptors get a guy to play either F slot, and Ando's Europal gets more time at center. The Hawks will need to check their rear view mirror for the Heat Check that is coming from someone other than Dominique.

The home stretch will be interesting.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for Horford between all those 7 footers on the rookie team tonight at 9 PM on TNT.

yes, I am trying to get the formatting to work.

Dan laroushe, ladies and gentlemen, playing the role of a man with multiple personalities, screaming into a mirror, in the basement of his mothers' house, where he has spent decades of his adult life......

That outburst was so out of no where, that the alternative theory would be something along the line of Tourette's.

Someone was saying to me that it seemed the Hacks' blog had less crazies than Sekou's. I think it was a jinx.......

RichBrave,

Thanks for coming by as always. Did you see the Bill Simmons-derived trade idea on Sekou's blog? It was posted yesterday by Najeh Davenpoop. The basics of the trade would see Marvin coming to your guys, and Butler coming to ours. I forget what the rest of the details involved, but you can go over and look for yourself.

I think your boy McGee has a bright future...if somebody will let him at it consistently.

Ando,

Few listened on the subject of Bargnani and are conspicuously quiet about it now. Heh! It must be the shock, accompanied by convenient amnesia. Imagine the deafening silence when Bibby packs up....I'm just sayin'...too many don't view this as a possibility.

What cracks me up is this "window of opportunity" that some people keep bringing up. I know we're having a "special season", as you also alluded to. But what makes it special is it is a WINNING season, the first in years. While that is special, since when did building and developing a team that can win consistently from season to season, take a back seat to one season in which we MIGHT have a 4th place seeding in the playoffs and MIGHT get to the second round?

We're not competing for a championship this year. Unless somebody can show me different, that is. If you're going to go for a one-year, one-shot deal....it better be for a championship, not a 4th best seeding in the playoffs. But hey, that's just MY opinion...

Dang, Rich, that's a pretty obvious slap to come over, shout out to my partner, and omit any reference to half the blog. What did I do to deserve such a dismissal?

Melvin, nice assessment. I honestly can't reconcile the documented financial losses, the pending payoff to Belkin, and the projected (if no trades to reduce this years' payroll) $13 million increase in payroll, when revenues appear to be flat as compared to last year. That Lafrentz contract, with the insurance reimbursement, would cover half of that amount, if the Hawks packaged up Bibby to Portland. But there's no doubt the Hawks are a better team with Bibby here. And there's no doubt that trading him, without improving this season's product, would be a PR nightmare. I'm still not so sure about the idea of re-signing him, unless it's an absolute value price, as I'll go on record with the opinion that Bibby will never have a better year than the one he's having right now (given his age, the fact that he IS playing for a contract, and the reality that PG is pretty much a young man's position, with a few notable exceptions).

Truth is that Marvin's market price seems to be going up.

You know what? I need to get to work on a fresh blog, so I should gather up my thoughts and set up an All-Star weekend post........

The Bibby trade talk is based on how we performed this year. His play has made this team a good unit, finally! If they traded him now, can you imagine the uproar? As Bibby goes, so goes the Hawks IMO. We do have Flip who has filled that void and the unsung hero of this year. Great job Sund because NO ONE saw this pickup coming.
Been watching closely since the Hudson/Beatty days and this team is as potent as we have ever had in the ATL.
What I would like to see is another big body to rotate down low to help us going forward for the last 30 games before playoff time. Are we a surety to keep the #4 slot? I like our position, what with the struggles of both Miami and Detroit.
Those ASG $$ issues are related to their legal battle, not what the Hawks have brought to the table. Hey, if they weren't aware that you have to spend $$ to make $$, they are in the wrong business. Blame it on the ASG ignorance to develop an ownership unti that works. Just plan on being near the cap if you want to remain competitive and you want to keep selling tickets.

Ways to become profitable:
Hey, talk Speedy into retiring! That gives you $5M back in your pocket of that investment.

Ando, I will give you credit. You are sticking by your guns with the Bibby being traded before the trade deadline predictions. However, I think he and Marvin will be in Hawks uniforms next year.

Many of us has pick at this ownership group (and for good reasons) but for a group of guys that are suppose to be losing money out the you know what. I will give them credit. In a time where other teams are looking to reduce expenses these guys has held the line. With the reports of them losing almost l75 mil one would think that they would be willing to sell the team to Belkin or at least try to reduce payroll (ie trading players) but all indications has pointed in the other direction such as not raising ticket prices for next season (remeber they're losing money), trading for Bibby, resigning Josh and was willing to resign Josh C. These guys has held the line better yet increase the payroll (at least on the BBall side). There have been several reports by so call insiders saying the Hawks are not interested in trading Bibby. We may call ASG broke but I'm not so sure how many other owners would be willing to continue business or not try to reduce payroll after losing 9 figures in a 5 or 6 year spand. Even the Billionaire owner Paul Allen (I think thats his 1st name) of the Blazers was disgruntle with Darius Miles contract being added back on their payroll. All I saying is that, maybe ASG has deeper pockets than we think...

After saying all that about the ASG, I am no fan of theirs. However, I will give them some credit for trying to improve the team under challenging circumstances....
