Former Hawk Josh Smith may have worn out his welcome after one season in Detroit.
ESPN, citing sources, reported that Detroit has swapped trade proposals with Sacramento in an attempt to trade Smith. The network reported that Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams are players the Kings may trade for Smith.
The report included this paragraph: “Skeptics will inevitably question whether the Kings should indeed take the gamble of trying to fit Smith in alongside (DeMarcus) Cousins and (Rudy) Gay, especially with three years and $40.5 million remaining on Smith’s contract from the Pistons last summer and in the wake of his struggles playing alongside Detroit big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.”
Smith averaged 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds last season. As during his nine seasons with the Hawks, Smith continued to struggle with 3-point shots, making only 26.4 percent of the ones he tried.
