Fisher: Coker better than any of Saban’s Bama QBs

The way Jimbo Fisher sees it, Jacob Coker will be Alabama’s best quarterback in a long time.

Coker graduated in May from FSU and has transferred to Alabama. Coker wasn’t your typical backup, playing behind Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.

Fisher has coached three quarterbacks chosen in the first round of the NFL draft (Jamarcus Russell, Christian Ponder and E.J. Manuel), so he can spot a talented signal-caller. He ranks Coker closer to those three than to any of the three QBs who have started for Saban at Alabama: A.J. McCarron, Greg McElroy and John Parker Wilson. (McCarron was the highest drafted player of the three, in the fifth round.)

In an interview with TideSports.com, Fisher was told that some people believe that a program of Alabama’s stature shouldn’t have to play someone else’s backup quarterback. His reply: “Including what they’ve had, he’s much more talented than anything they’ve had. I don’t mean to discredit the previous guys, they were all great. But this guy is extremely talented. Arm and mind.”

When asked how good Coker can be, Fisher said, “He can beat you with his feet, he can beat you with his arm, he can beat you a lot of ways. He’s the real McCoy, now. He’s an NFL player, I think a high pick. He has a chance to be, without a doubt.”

Coker may be the real deal, but he will have to earn it. Blake Sims will not back down without a fight.

Jimbo needs to let Nick Saban handle handle Bama and he can manage FSU. AJ has 3 NC rings and no other college QB can make that claim. None,Nada,Zip.

Jimbo is not trying to handle Saban and the Tide. He is just telling you what he knows about Coker, his opinion… and its as good as yours.. It was all good so what’s your bitch. Roll Tide!!!

Looks like we have a winner for the “most ironic blog quote of the week award”.

Virginia Tie – you are absolutely correct. Blake Sims has been waiting (and learning) to run Saban’s offense for 4 years. Nobody seems to remember that he was the GHSA offensive player of the year in 2009. There is no way Coker is a better athlete than Sims. I don’t care what kind of mind Fisher thinks Coker has. So is Coker the 2nd best QB in the country behind J Winston? Fisher is full of crap! Sims is going to run Bama like Shockley did UGA…Sugar Bowl Champs!

If he was so good why didn’t he play the last 4 years. There is a reason no one had ever heard of the guy the last for years. He is going to bama because they don’t have any better option . If you saw their spring game you could easily see they has some serious issues at QB.

Sounds like a QB controversy to me………I hope the team splits over the whole thing and they lose 3 games this season.

BTW…..I say 3 games because Alabama plays a 3 game schedule in 2014.Texas A&M (with a ???? QB), LSU & Auburn are the only teams on the schedule worth noting; once again this proves that the SEC is not much different from other conferences after the Top 3-4 teams!!!!!!!! 9 wins are essentially guaranteed due to easy wins & this soft schedule…….pitiful.

Dawgs win national title this year! Bama loses to Auburn again and Dawgs whip Auburn in SEC Title game and get revenge for the fluke loss to Auburn last year! Dawgs whip FSU for national title 34-31.
