SEC chooses site of 2016 women’s basketball tournament

The SEC awarded its 2016 women’s basketball tournament to Jacksonville, Fla. The tournament will be played in Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, a 15,000-seat arena.

The SEC women’s tournament previously was awarded to North Little Rock, Ark., in 2015 and Nashville, Tenn., in 2018, 2022 and 2026.

The tournament was held at Gwinnett Arena the past two seasons.

the city should have pumped in a lot more money to keep the tournament here.

Good! Maybe the GHSA will move the high school BB tourney back to the arena. And the arena will recognize a long term tennent rather than a one or two time thing every ten years.

Why Jacksonville? The Gator Bowl stadium has contractual ties with UF but there are no other creditable or ethical relationships with this city and the SEC. Looks like matter of the city just wanting few extra dollars and the SEC leaders not wanting to pay full price to be in locale where a SEC member can actually be a host.
