ESPN: Notre Dame’s Kelly interviews with Eagles

Could the man who returned Notre Dame football to national prominence be heading to the NFL?

ESPN, citing anonymous sources, is reporting that Brian Kelly has interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles about their vacant coaching job. And, ESPN says, both sides are interested.

Kelly met with the Eagles on Tuesday, and there was mutual interest after the interview, according to league sources. Kelly left the country after meeting with the Eagles and could not be reached for comment.

The Eagles and Kelly have agreed to revisit talks when he returns this weekend, according to league sources.

Kelly, in his third season at Notre Dame, led the Fighting Irish to a 12-0 regular season and a spot in the BCS national championship game, where they were routed by Alabama, 42-14. The Irish have not won a national championship since 1988, when Lou Holtz was their coach. They have lost at least three games in every season since 1993.

Philadelphia is looking for a replacement for coach Andy Reid, who was fired after a 4-12 season.

As a honors gradute of the Notre Dame Praeiudicia Borealis School of Journalism, I feel that Kelly must go. It is obvious that until some coach is willing and able to install an effective countermeasure to Nick Saban, there is no hope of a championship. Saban’s use of drones this season was a master stroke. For instance, if you look close at the end of the Georgia Alabama game you can clearly see an explosion at the feet of the Georgia receiver who in turn fell to the ground along with all hope for Georgia. Clearly, the only answer is to surround the Golden Dome with a lasar weapon array capable of taking out Saban’s drone attack.

The BCS game was a reality check for Kelly who has inadvertantly set too high a bar too soon. He likely now realizes this year’s team was a solid top ten team but had no business in the BCS game, undefeated or not. And even though the ACC remains down, as soon as ND picks up the likes of FSU or Clemson, they are not even going undefeated in their pseudo ACC schedule. And this was as weak a year for the Big Ten as it has had in awhile. That too contributed to the undefeated season. I am an ACC fan, but put Notre Dame in the SEC West and it loses 2-3 games.

ND would be a .500 team in the SEC. Kelly will most likely take the $$$ which makes him a winner at his bank but he will be a loser on the field. Like all these college coaches the NFL will not let you out recruit the other teams like you can do in college.

obamataxesagain: ND would be .500? I heard idiots like you say the same thing about A&M when they announced joinging the SEC: “they aren’t ready for big-boy football”, “they won’t be able to handle the size and speed”, “they will be lucky if they win two conference games”. You guys LOVE to announce that such and such team would be .500 with no way to back it up. I guess, by your standard, Louisville would probably be undefeated the way they beat down FL?

when will it stop

Blue….Texas A&M–as great as a season as they, were withing four or five plays of being less than 500 in the SEC–and Notre Dame cbuouldn’t have stayed on the field with A&M. They barely beat Pittsburgh, for goodness sake, ( 3 ot, MISSED CHIP SHOT FG) and Pitt got spanked by OLE MISS.
If nd had played in the west they would have lost to LSU, ALABAMA and A&M. If they had played in the East they would have lost to SC, FL, and GA–Vandy would have been a tossup. 7th best team AT BEST. It was 28-0 at the half, dude., Face it. They had NO BUSINESS in that game.
