ESPN commentator: Seahawks, Redskins better than Falcons

The Falcons had the best record in the NFC this season, but an ESPN commentator sees at least two other teams better than them in the conference playoffs.

Michael Wilbon discussed the Redskins-Seahawks game on ESPN 980 this week and said he felt both teams were better than the Falcons.

The Falcons routed the Giants a week after a national analyst said New York was a better team.

“I think the winner will beat Atlanta. I think the winner’s a better team than Atlanta. I would never use the word upset. I think the Redskins are better than Atlanta, and I think Seattle’s better than Atlanta.”

The Falcons beat the Redskins 24-17 on October 7. Atlanta is 13-3, Seattle is 11-5 and Washington is 10-6.

Wilbon’s comments continue a trend.

On Dec. 9, NBC analyst Rodney Harrison said, “Atlanta is the No. 1 seed, but no one is afraid to play Atlanta,” Harrison said. “To me, the team to beat in the NFC is the New York Giants.”

A week later, Atlanta routed the Giants 34-0.

Maybe Coach Smith will pin this up in the locker room. A lack of respect is usually a great motivator. However, the Falcons shouldn’t need any additional motivation after the last three playoff exits.

That stuff doesn’t bother or rattle me. All throughout the season, the “experts” picked against the Falcons, only to be wrong. I thought it was hilarious when most of the ESPN guys and all of the Fox guys (except for Bradshaw) picked the Giants. Also, ESPN is leaning towards TMZ-style reporting more and more and is losing respect in the sports journalism world.

This is what happens when you have a rb that cant break through the line and a defense that cant stop the opponents. I am a Falcons fan but why should
anyone be afraid of them? They don’t usually get started till the fourth quarter except for a single long drive to open the game. They need a running back, offensive and defensively lines, and wide recievers whose play matches their mouths the entire game.

Until Falcons start winning playoff games, nobody should fear them. They’ve laid an egg the last few appearances and don’t deserve any playoff respect yet. Hopefully this year will be different. I think we’d handle the Redskins ok but not so sure about the Seahawks.

If the Giants had the same record against the same teams, w/ the same scores, and the same outcome of every play, they would be Superbowl favs. Guess what? I DONT CARE! This is not surprising and isn’t anything new. ESPN commentators haven’t been kind to The Falcons all year and to be honest The Falcons haven’t helped their case much except for their record.which is the best in the NFL.. Their performances against nearly everyone they played hasn’t been given much reason for the national media to have much faith in them. To be honest if they had watched every play of each game they would have even less respect for them. Still the Falcons have did what they have to do and that is win games.

This is what I hate about social media. The plan is to report something controversial, in this case it is to Atlanta Falcons fans that their team basically sucks, someone else picks it up, it starts trending locally whatever that means revenue wise I have no idea, people get pissed & make comments & it is one whole big circle that means nothing, especially game time.
