Chipper Jones rips Gators after upset

One of the Florida Gators’ best-known fans is ripping into the team after its stunning 33-23 loss to Louisville in the Sugar Bowl Wednesday night.

Chipper Jones took to Twitter to express the frustration that many Gator fans are feeling after watching Florida fall behind 24-3 in the first half and 33-10 in the second half before falling 10 points short in a late comeback attempt.

“Never seen a more undisciplined football team in my life. As a life long UF fan, that was embarrassing,” Jones wrote Thursday.

And then: “I can handle getting beat, but to show ur [fannies] in front of the whole country? Sure hope the inmates ain’t running the asylum down there!”

Since when is Chipper Jones a Gator? And he should start worrying about his own state of affairs before bashing others publicly. I don’t necessarily disagree with his comments, but didn’t he just leave his wife for a Playboy bunny? That doesn’t sound like the sharpest tool in the shed.

CJ10 grew up a Gator fan. And he’s right. UF had WAY more talent than UL but football is a team game. UL wanted it more. Not sure this is Muschamps issue. Bama mailed it in vs. Utah a couple of years ago. UGA mailed it in vs. Central Fl recently. These bowl game matchups this year have sucked. It’s an outdated idea. The fans don’t care, the players don’t care. Only the college presidents care.

I am literally laughing at the idiotic Gators posting on here trying to talk trash to the rest of the SEC after getting absolutely EMBARRASS in the most pathetic SEC performance in BCS history.

I read in USA Today that the Gators had 6,789 fans in attendance in New Orleans, Georgia brought over 14,000+ to Orlando and the Tide are having to turn people away fro Miami.

Long Live Will Muschamp! Driskel is a joke too!

I love seeing the misery of the Gator fans. Chipper was right. That was about the most embarrassing thing I’ve seen on the football field in a long time. UF returned about 10,500 tickets that they could not even sell. They lost to the Dawgs because they were intimidated and the Dawgs are the better team. The Gator program has been going downhill since Saint Timmy left. Their blogs talk all about there is little interest in all Gator sports programs. These things go in cycles and the Gators are heading to the lower tier fast. Florida totally embarrassed the SEC last night. At least the Dawgs were respectable against Alabama and as you know, were only about 5 yards from playing for it all. Cry in your beer Gators. Your program and classless fans are sad.

And I guess after a lifetime of having his performance scrutinized, Chipper is as justified as anyone to publicly criticize other athletes. Doesn’t mean it’s right, since he should understand how it feels, but maybe he enjoyed the public scrutiny when the Braves played like jokes in the playoffs from 1996 Game 3 of the World Series till present day. Maybe Chipper will start thinking backwards a little and start ripping the terrible playoff managerial job done by Bobby Cox all those years! That would be fun to see. Start with bringing in Leibrandt to face Puckett in Game 6 1991.

The SEC is a joke, the ACC owns them and made LSU quit.

Florida had NO BUSINESS being in a BCS game, the most poorly coached, under-prepared squad I’ve ever seen, and that is coming from someone who has first-hand witnessed Paul Johnson’s squads in bowl action.

As Taylor Martinez said, Nebraska was clearly better than Georgia but somehow the Mutts squeaked one out.

NEVER FORGET that GT beat the preseason #1 team in America and Rambling Wreck football is restored to Glory!

If you weren’t convinced things were going totally sideways from the start, then Florida getting the ball first should have crashed every tripwire in your panic centers. All year long the pattern has been the same: that Florida wants nothing to do with the ball in the first half, and should just punt on first down and let its defense do its half of the game plan–namely, assaulting the other team until they would prefer to be doing something else. Then, in the second half, shock the opponent by “attempting things,” and then “Falling on the opponent until fractures result.”

Incompetent Gators

January 3rd, 2013

There is no way to pack more incompetence into a single play than what Florida did to open the second half. There isn’t; even allowing a TD return off an onside is simply losing a bet, and not losing the onside attempt and then accentuating the failure with TWO personal fouls. This then allowed Teddy Bridgewater to float one of his golden snitch god balls right over the top of Florida’s coverage, and thus a humiliating TD, and thus a series we’d really like to delete from the archives forever.

Michael in Decatur is right:
” These bowl game matchups this year have sucked. It’s an outdated idea. The fans don’t care, the players don’t care. Only the college presidents care.”

In the present day of the BCS, none of these bowl games amount to anything. They’re like NFL preseason games – they just don’t really matter. Hard to get up for a game that has no true meaning. Yea, they allow you to practice for another month. They allow you to bloat your season record with another win. They may have a little impact on recruiting. But really, Georgia’s season ended Dec 1 in the Georgia Dome 5 yards short. When there used to be 5 NYD bowls and a few second tier on Dec 31, going to a bowl game was an ACCOMPLISHMENT. Even the Gator Bowl was a pretty big deal. But now it’s, “Hey, we have a winning record with wins over 2 1-AA teams and some university from Lousiana (LaLa, LaMon, LaTech . . .), we get to go to the ______________.com bowl in Charlotte!” Who cares?

When did UF become the Miami circa late 80’s? Every team has a loudmouth or two but the entire UF team were pounding their chests…yelling at referees…and all this while getting steamrolled. I can’t remember how many times a Louisville RB would bust it up the middle for 15 and a Gator would make a nice hit and start jawing…as if the hit made up for getting punked for 15 yards.

Chipper was right about UF. They didn’t appear to take someone seriously. Talking smack in UL players grill after falling behind 2 scores right from the start.
Even after they saw GT beat a much more talented team (also disinterested team) in So Cal . The Gators looked as hooked and stunned as those dead gators in the Troys boat on Swamp people.
That was probably their attitude all week we just show up and we will win. It just doesn’t always work that way. UF no doubt has more raw talent than UL but it didn’t show up quick enough in that ball game.
There is a reason Charlie Strong stayed put and didn’t grab a job in the SEC. Yes UL had more to prove and to their credit they did. Just another bowl pick gone wrong for me ! Thanks for nothing Coach Will.

As for as what does 17-9 mean, it means we have a winning streak giong against UF, it means Muschamp is0-2 against UGA, and looking 0-3 square in the face, a team doesn’t have to be very good defensively to shut UF down, our D proved that this year. Muschamp got outcoached, and the uf players got outplayed. Still not sold on Muschamp, esp. when he is the first coach since like Charley Pell to lose to uga two yrs in a row. When your offense is so inept, and you rely solely on your defense, it’s inevitable that a good coach is eventually gonna expose that flaw. Maybe we have the wrong coach, and the coach on the opposing side last night should be in orange and blue. And finally, burn those ORANGE pants. That’s retro ’80’s, and we all know how painful that decade was

Well, FL was in a no-win situation last night. If they win, nobody gives a clip about it because they are supposed to win. The players probably thought UL is a push-over, and to some extent the coaches did the same.

The fans were definitely not interested in such a game since so many tickets have to be returned.

So, UF players didn’t think much of the game, the coaches didn’t think much of the game, the fans didn’t think much of the game.

Except people at Louisville.

The Florida Gators matched up with the Louisville Cardinals last night in the Sugar Bowl and got punched in the mouth. The only problem with that was, they didn’t punch back.

Or even attempt to.

Before the Gators even knew what hit them, they were down 24 to 3. Sure they “battled” back to make the game seem close, but they were never really in it. The Gators offense had a game very similar to what we’ve seen all season long. They finished with 175 yards passing and 111 yards rushing.

Okay, maybe we’ve seen more from the running game throughout the season. But playing from behind that much isn’t conducive to running the ball. And the Gators’ offense isn’t built to come from behind like that.

Even though the Gators ended the season with a whimper, it was still a great season. 11-2 and a Sugar Bowl appearance is nothing to be ashamed about. Especially after what we all witnessed just one year ago.

Did some of you even read Chipper’s comments before posting? He said he can handle Florida getting beaten, but he hated their lack of discipline and how they handled themselves during the game. You can say what you want about Chipper, but he gave all he had. In the end, he didn’t have much to give, but he played the right way and was NEVER a showboating grand-stander. Some of those Florida ball players need to learn to grow up and play up to their talent level and not give in to foolish displays governed by their testosterone levels.

“…[Chipper Jones ]doesn’t sound like the sharpest tool in the shed.”

Chipper is a world class dufus. He proves it darn near every time he opens his mouth. The signature moment of his final season with the Braves was to toss a routine throw to second base into center field in the playoff game with St Louis.

Two years ago, he decided to publicly lecture Jason Heyward on playing with pain. Hello? Chipper? Aren’t you the same guy who routinely excused himself from work (at a cool 67K per game) because your ring finger was stiff, or you hurt his back changing shirts or sleeping on the mattress in a 5-star New York hotel?

He’s a man blessed with prodigious physical talent. God evened it out by giving him the mental capacity of a bag of hair and the competitive heart of Caspar Milquetoast.

Gator fans need to give credit where it is due. You don’t seem to want to accept the fact that you were going up against one of the premiere coaches and defensive minds in the game in Charlie Strong. Not only that, but Strong knows the Gators inside and out and Louisville’s personel isn’t exactly bad. Their defense had strength and speed and Driskell was under pressure all night long. Just don’t be like Nebraska, where you tell everyone how much better you are than a team that just whipped your rear ends. Just take, bury it, and prepare for next season!

Timmy Gator

January 3rd, 2013
4:34 pm

The Gators turned the ball over three times and finished minus-2 in turnover margin. The worst one came on the game’s first offensive play when Driskel’s throw was behind Debose, who got a hand on the ball and tipped it into the air. Terell Floyd picked it off and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown. That fired up the Cardinals, shocked the Gators, and set the tone for the rest of the game.

Jimi Gator

January 3rd, 2013
4:35 pm

Lack of discipline: The Gators committed nine penalties for 98 yards. Five were personal fouls, facemasks, or unsportsmanlike conduct. The most costly came on the second-half kickoff, when Loucheiz Purifoy and Chris Johnson were each penalized for personal fouls and Johnson was ejected from the game for throwing a punch. UF also committed two penalties inside the red zone on offense that cost the Gators a chance at a touchdown. It was a surprising lack of discipline from a team that had been composed all season.

Billy Gator

January 3rd, 2013
4:35 pm

Pass coverage: Florida has been one of the nation’s top teams against the pass all season (No. 1 in pass efficiency defense in the regular season), but the Gators apparently forgot how to cover during the break. UF’s DBs got turned around and confused and had trouble playing the ball. Louisville receivers were wide open, especially in the middle of the field and in the flats. The Gators played more zone than they have in any other game this season and looked lost.

Will Muschamp

January 3rd, 2013
4:35 pm

Timmy Gator is right. It wasn’t our fault. It was 1 play and cheap penalties. Other than these 2 things we would have killed Louisville.
We are # 1 because of our recruiting class by ESPN, enough said.

Gator No Shows

January 3rd, 2013
4:37 pm

The only thing more eye-popping than Florida’s no-show performance in its 33-23 Allstate Sugar Bowl loss to Louisville was how many Florida fans no-showed for the game.

Jon Solomon of The Birmingham News has a story on overall bowl attendance being down 5 percent this season, and it was most glaring in New Orleans on Wednesday night. The Sugar Bowl’s announced crowd of 54,178 was the game’s worst since 1939, and the smallest ever for a BCS bowl.

In other words, don’t expect to see the Gators back on Bourbon Street any time soon if the Sugar Bowl has anything to do with it. Florida reportedly sold about 7,000 tickets of its 17,500 allotment. Louisville sold about 15,000.

Gators are Garbage. Actually its single malt, thank you very much, and I’m only on # 1. I like the steamroll post. That’s fans and football. I just can’t stand these immature twerps. But again for the “steamroll”, it just isn’t going to happen. Once ND defeated OK and Stanford, the stage was set for a return to football normalcy that has been missing for 20 years. All the southern teams are alike. They are big, fast, and good, but DUMB. ALA is about to play a team that’s smart and can access and modify on the fly. It will be a shock for the ALA players though Saban knows what’s coming. I promise you he isn’t getting much sleep. Florida looked so bad that I expected to see Gene Chizik coaching them on the sidelines.

Muschamp was right, he did not have them ready. If he had them ready they still would have lost. Louisville was simply the better team.

Looks like Florida hired the wrong defensive coordinator for their head coach. They should have kept Charlie Strong and promoted him. Oh well, too late now.

As for Tech finding restored glory, what glory is there in a 6-7 team getting special permission to go to a second rate bowl in El Paso to play a team without its starting QB and with a freshman QB trying to lead a team that does not even want to be there. You could tell Lane Kiffin did not want to be there. Hid behind his shades in a hoodie and showed no emotion or interest as he sent in another play. He was probaby talking to his agent on his cellphone during most of the game lining up the next program he is going to sink. What a worm.

You know what Chipper is just stating what everybody else is scared to do because we may offend someone or we may not get that bigtime recruit. Florida is just another program that is turning their heads and looking the other way so they won’t make a recruit mad. All the long hair, white and black, the nasty tattoos, all the jawing and showboating, especially after making a tackle and your team still getting their butts kicked si sickening. I am as big a Dawg fan and Coach Richt fan as anybody but the UGA team is embarrassing the way they look, especially their long hair, and their discipline needs to improve even though this group did improve during the year. hey, we dawg fans seem to have forgotten about Central Florida. The truth is that all Gator fans are responsible for setting your own team up for this fall in the Sugar bowl. Everyboby, and I mean everybody, talked for weeks about the “inferior opponent” you were facing. Heck, you people didn’t even purchase but half of your alloted tickets because you couldn’t get excited about who you were playing. In essence, your superior ego,s leaked over to your team and, they weren,t prepared mentally for a team that was tired of hearing about the Gators and the SEC. You folks don,t have any right to criticize your team and coaches because you brought this on yourselves.

My hope for the new year is that at least 1 SEC fan realizes that there are other conferences with better teams than the so called mighty SEC. SEC fans never give other conferences and teams credit….yes they may get some of the highest rated recruits but they also get the most undisciplined athletes as evidenced by the number of personal fouls called during SEC games. Georgia and Florida certainly showed that during both their bowl games. Of course it’s fun to watch those teams fall during the bowl games and it gives those fans 9 months to rebuild the hype. SEC, you are not the only strong conference and there are plenty of teams that can do exactly what Louisville did to the Gators, if you would only play them. Talent doesn’t always mean wins….it just means you have MORE potential to win….discipline wins and UL was a well coached team with guys that play as a TEAM

Braves fan, but not a Chipper fan (as a person) – but anyone saying stupid stuff like, “I didn’t know Chipper was a UF graduate!”, has it occurred to you that Chipper has been a professional baseball player since a few days after he graduated high school in 1990? A lot of Gator fans were upset by the way the Gators played last night……but real Gator fans are not questioning what is going on in Gainesville. Obviously, Chipper does not follow what is going on in Gainesville very well. Stupid twitter post by him concerning the players and coaches at Florida. I think Elam showed his arse several times during the game, and was a smart arse with the press after the game. He had not been like that all year, so I have no idea what was up with him. And I find it funny that Georgia fans are rippoing Gator players when you have the worse thug that has ever played college football….Rambo. And…I happened to notice that the Cap One Bowl game was missing fannies in a lot of empty seats in Orlando as well……and I wonder how many on here ripping Gator fans had their fannies in the seats in those seats in Orlando. Probably none. As a Gator fan, I had no interest in spending $1500 to travel to NO and watch a meaningless game…..and I am sure many of the Gator players felt the same about the game. It should have been two top 5 teams in the game….but the BCS has totally ruined the bowl games….as most bowl games this year are far less than full of fans….including the Outback as well. The entire upper deck of the Orange Bowl was empty. The entire bowl system needs to be restructured if it is going to survive for sure. But you people and Chipper can continue to take pot shots at Florida and Muschamp…..but true Gator fans…..CHIPPER…..know the good things Muschamp is doing down in Gainesville and will continue to do. By the way……ADAMS and WALKER will be visiting Gainesville this weekend.

ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE, who believes you have to be a GRADUATE of a particular school to be a fan isn’t doing much with their own EDUCATION, even if it came from SAID SCHOOL. Many of us, like me, have MULTIPLE degrees from MULTIPLE schools, and our favorite college didn’t offer our major/degrees in our chosen profession. Also, many of us, like me, moved away from our home state before we graduated high school and didn’t really have a chance to attend our favorite school.
Appreciate that people are fans and don’t put so much emphasis on whether or not a fan actually GRADUATED from the school they pull for. Otherwise, no school would come close to actually filling their own stadium on game day.

Gators are NOT the premier team in their own division and definitely are not close to where they were when Spurrier or Tebow was there. They are getting EXCEPTIONAL recruits but the team is not as good as their ranking indicated. They did over-achieve this year, I will give them that however. Florida should be better in the next couple years if the new OC can get the job done. But their coach is a clown who can coach defense and but is way over the top trying to put fear in his players and the refs. That is going to get old FAST and if he doesnt get it all together he is going to burn out of this job fast. Head coaching is a lot more than overdoing an attitude. He has a lot to learn including game preparation. Florida was terribly prepared and it became obvious to the Muschamp and he blew up because he knew he did not have his team ready for a big game…he blew up and his players followed…

BUT it was only a bowl game and Florida was likely better because they had better athletes BUT the were not ready and they got embarrassed AND they embarassed themselves with their thug attitudes when the writing was on the wall…they werent prepared. Coaches were too busy recruiting. They might learn from it but the thug attitudes were embarassing…..

Columbus

January 4th, 2013
3:19 am

Tampa Gator….the coach and players embarassed themselves, the school and the SEC and the Sugar Bowl. They acted like thugs towards the refs and the other players. Huge embarassment and Chipper dont have to keep up with jack to realize that FACT. Embarassment to EVERYONE INVOLVED. CLASSLESS is appropriate among other adjectives….anybody can see they had none and that is all Chipper saying. That falls on the Head Coach….he had no class and neither does his players. That is their losing identity as of now and I am sure they will be working on changing that label from this point forward.

Chirp all you want Tampa….talk is cheap. You lost to a Big East school in a BCS bowl. These young players hadnt experienced a BCS bowl. They went to New Orleans and played in the Superdome and were not prepared, leaving receivers wide open on crossing patterns, and their defense got burnt and the QB looked atrocious as did the blocking and you have no WR’s. You got some coming and the QB will get better after taking his lumps. He will grow from it next year since he really is a running QB they are making into a pocket passer. Takes time. Gator D however didnt show up against good offenses. Their stats were awesome but they played some one dimensional offenses except for 2 games really. They won using a formula of getting the lead and wearing the other team down in the 2nd half and running the ball and eating clock. But when that didnt work they were in trouble. Talk is cheap. UF is recruiting really good but until it comes together and you win the big ones, its all talk. Muschamp isnt winning any big ones yet….but hes inexperienced and he might learn from taking his lumps too…but UNTIL then, talk is cheap. So is the class of the Gators and their coach at this point and the whole world seen that embarassing baboon Muschamp Wed night….they were not prepared and acted classless and deserved to lose. Too worried about recruiting and not preparing and they embarassed themselves by acting like classless thugs and got embarassed by Louisville from the Big …..East! Show it on the field is all I got to say. Forget winning the SEC East the next 4-5 years. Got to grow up first….

The SEC as a whole just doesn’t play outside its conference for a reason. It blows the mystic; these guys are no better or worse than the rest of the country. Then when bowl season comes around and they lose to a commoner the company line is they didn’t want to be there as bad as the other team.

Georgia has tried to pick it’s out of conference opponents the last few years to have the look of a team thinking of being a national power, but not playing anyone who could beat them. It is tricky and they have some of their worse loses in this routine. When they lost to Colorado a few years back they blame it on not having Green. The other 21 high school All Americans showed up but we didn’t have that one that would have made the difference, against arguablely the worse team in division one football. Two years ago it was B State that schooled them.

If ND beats Alabama, who is a far better coached team that any in the SEC, this gig is up. But already I am hearing the 30 day lay off is killing them, like two teams don’t have the same conditions to play under.

Why does what Chumper think make the news? Anyone who can’t hustle on his final AB after literally throwing the game in RF needs to keep his mouth shut. Talk about lack of selfdiscipline.

As for a lack of discipline, UGAG needs to look no further than to Washaun, Caleb, Isaiah, Alec, and multiple brownie user Bacarri for inmates running an isylum. Oh and Shawn also talking about teammates in the paper and asylum employee Saint Mark and Nonsaint Todd refusing to discipline him. That sounds more like inmates (criminal as well) running the Athens isylum.
