Former Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards is close to joining the Seattle Seahawks roster, according to ProFootball Talk.

The 10-5 Seahawks worked out Edwards earlier this week and are expected to sign the free agent by today.

The Falcons released Edwards in November. Edwards, who was signed last year to a five-year, $27.5 million contract, played 25 games for the Falcons and had 3.5 sacks. The Falcons are still on the hook for $1.05 million of his $3 million salary for this season.

The Falcons could face Seattle, who have clinched a playoff spot and would play the Washington Redskins in the Wild Card round, in the NFC Divisional Playoff.

Emotion aside. Seattle drafts/picks players based off position, not personality. This player has been picked because he fits in a scheme that has been working.

Wilson is a great rookie QB but he is still a rookie QB. Those folks who are pitching Seahawks v. Falcons in the divisional round are assuming that Seattle gets past RG3 and the Redskins who run the same read option offense Seattle does. And that’s a BIG assumption. I think Seattle gets rolled next week and is one and done. In fact it’s a safe bet that all home teams will win in round 1 and we will get RG3 and the Skins the following week. If Seattle is signing Ray Edwards it’s definitely for intel on Mike Nolan but if he was that good of a student, wouldn’t he still be with the team? If they do it it also means they think taking down the Redskins at FEDEX field is going to be easy. That is a BIG mistake. Skins take the air out of the Sea Chickens 24-14 BANK ON IT!
